First launched in April 2010, the Sisters Network Inc. Stop the Silence National African American Breast Cancer 5K Walk/Run is the first and only national breast cancer walk hosted by a black-led organization for black women. The walk is hosted in April to draw attention to National Minority Health Awareness month. Over the last 15 years, more than 4,000 participants from around the United States travel to Houston, Texas annually to honor and celebrate black women diagnosed with breast cancer. A portion of the funds raised from the Stop the Silence walk benefits Sisters Network Inc. Karen E. Jackson Breast Cancer Assistance Program (BCAP). The national program pays for 3D mammograms for uninsured women and provides financial assistance to breast cancer survivors who are currently in treatment.

The 29th Annual Victory Over Violence Walk/Run takes place Saturday April 18, 2026.  This USATF certified 5K Walk/Run and a 1K Fun Run starts at Trinity Park Duck Pond near downtown Fort Worth and winds through Trinity Park. T-shirt, food, beverages, a huge children’s area and more are included. Benefits the anti-violence programs of The Women’s Center of Tarrant County. The Women's Center serves over 100,000 each year by inspiring and empowering women, men and children to overcome violence, crisis and poverty.

Misti Waldrop, my sister in law, fought a hard battle with lung cancer. In November 2020 Misti joined Jesus. She left behind her amazing family and her 6 year old daughter, McKenzi. We will be hosting a 5K walk/run in her honor. It’ll be $25 a person and it will include a shirt. Please join us in her honor. Saturday, April 18, 2025. This incredible natural area (now known as LLELA) was originally wild and beautiful, full of an endless number of native species. But the area around it became urbanized and the city moved in on it. LLELA was tamed, eventually being surrounded by suburbia (the city, and thousands of people and noise). Now, LLELA, University of North Texas, and the City of Lewisville are working to bring back the wild. Reclaiming it, protecting it, and making beautiful experiences possible for generations to come.  As they work daily to restore and replenish the native plant, tree, and animal life, they are bringing the natural environment back full circle. The 5K race takes place at 4:00 PM and is run on a USATF certified (AL14024JD) flat, fast course that is perfect for setting PRs and State Age Records! The D1 Life Foundation was established in loving memory of Dylan Pegues, a 17 year old Auburn High student that led a life of love, kindness, and generosity through Christ. The D1 Life 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run will take place on April 18, 2026 at Town Creek Park in Auburn, Alabama. All proceeds from the race will go towards scholarships for seniors preparing for college, as well as helping send our youth to church conferences, soccer camps, photography seminars, and much more. Big steps, little feet, sweet impact! Join local non-profit organization HONEY Bags Inc. at 9 AM on Saturday, April 18th for a 5k in Pleasant Valley with your family and friends. Participants can run or walk this 5k (road) course that begins at East Fairmont High School (EFHS). You will start on the EFHS campus then go downhill on Airport Road. You will then turn right at Crosswinds and run out then back to Airport Road past the municipal airport. You will turn left and loop around the Brickside Grille parking lot, then turn right and run Airport Road back to EFHS campus to finish. There will be rewards for the top 3 male and female finishers. Issaqueena’s Last Ride is a challenging, mountain ride through the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and Foothills of South Carolina. The 100 mile ride is highlighted by the climb to Wigington Overlook where it is rewarded with expansive views of Lake Jocassee and the surrounding Carolina Piedmont. The 30 mile and the Metric Century 62.1 mile rides stay in the flatter areas of Salem and Tamassee where the roads are gently rolling with no difficult climbs. All routes feature scenic rural roads with little traffic.  This is a CHALLENGE.  Please follow rules of the road. Registration fee includes pre-ride coffee and baked goods, post-ride meal, cue sheets, SAG, and fully stocked rest stops.  The event T-Shirt is guaranteed until March 31, 2026 11:00 a.m. registration date and time.
