Beginner Sailing: April 18 & 19

Two-day adult sailing classes are offered most weekends from 9 am to 4 pm at Fiddler's Cove Marina. Classes are open to all eligible MWR patrons and sponsored guests. Minimum age requirement is 16 years or older with a parent or guardian. Class fees per person vary by military affiliation and rank. Dependent fees are calculated at the sponsoring active duty or retiree rate. Pre-registration is required as classes can fill up quickly. Now, LLELA, University of North Texas, and the City of Lewisville are working to bring back the wild. Reclaiming it, protecting it, and making beautiful experiences possible for generations to come.  As they work daily to restore and replenish the native plant, tree, and animal life, they are bringing the natural environment back full circle. Hughes Springs Wildflower Trails 5k

The 35th Annual Wildflower Trails 5K will be held on April 18, 2026!  After 35 years, we've learned a thing or two about life and here's the thing... LIFE'S MESSY, RUN WITH IT! So run (or walk) your way through this course that does not disappoint and take in the beauty of the northeast Texas spring wildflowers!!!  The race includes chip timing with RFID tags, race bibs and, as always, each participant receives a race t-shirt. The first 50 to register will receive a swag bag full of sponsorship items and other goodies. There is a $100 prize to top female and $100 to top male.  The $1,000 bounty is up for grabs to the top female and/or male that beats the course record!!!   The race registration and finish line are located at Hughes Springs City Hall.  Participants will be bussed to the starting line so be early as the race starts at 8:30am sharp. Misti Waldrop, my sister in law, fought a hard battle with lung cancer. In November 2020 Misti joined Jesus. She left behind her amazing family and her 6 year old daughter, McKenzi. We will be hosting a 5K walk/run in her honor. It’ll be $25 a person and it will include a shirt. Please join us in her honor. Sisters Network® Inc. 16th Annual Stop the Silence 5K Walk/Run April 18, 2026

First launched in April 2010, the Sisters Network Inc. Stop the Silence National African American Breast Cancer 5K Walk/Run is the first and only national breast cancer walk hosted by a black-led organization for black women. The walk is hosted in April to draw attention to National Minority Health Awareness month. Over the last 15 years, more than 4,000 participants from around the United States travel to Houston, Texas annually to honor and celebrate black women diagnosed with breast cancer. A portion of the funds raised from the Stop the Silence walk benefits Sisters Network Inc. Karen E. Jackson Breast Cancer Assistance Program (BCAP). The national program pays for 3D mammograms for uninsured women and provides financial assistance to breast cancer survivors who are currently in treatment.
