Run for a Pawpose 5K

Join us for the 2nd Annual Run for a Pawpose 5K, Kids Fun Run (ages 10 & Under), and Doggie Run, which will take place on the evening of Saturday, April 18th. The Run for a Pawpose 5K benefits the Pups With Purpose program through the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. This special event helps support a program that gives shelter dogs a second chance, while providing inmates with valuable life, social, and vocational skills.  This event is open to walkers and runners of all ages, as well as dogs. Please join us for our 30th year as we honor our fallen law enforcement heroes. These officers have made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety and protection of our city and its people.  Ron Dean #551 and Dewayne Williams #904 were working in the narcotics division of the Shreveport Police Department. On December 16, 1992 Ron Dean was fatally wounded while attempting to serve a search warrant for narcotics at the Pines Apartments. On March 3, 1993 Dewayne Williams was fatally wounded while attempting to serve a search warrant for narcotics at a home on Magnolia Ave.  Ron Dean and Dewayne Williams were supporters of Special Olympics during their law enforcement careers. Shreveport Police Officers along with other law enforcement agencies and civilians participate in this run each year. This run is not only in memory of Ron Dean and Dewayne Williams; it is in memory of all fallen law enforcement officers. He led Colonel to the state finals in 1976, and reached the state semifinals in 1973, 1976, 1990 and 1995.  In the fall of 1967 to joined Caroline County's Colonel Richardson High School where he served as a guidance counselor from 1967-2004; varsity boy's basketball coach from 1967-2005; and assistant girl's track coach in the 1970s. The HYROX Sprint is a fast paced simulation of a Hyrox race, with only 1/4 the distance and reps. It's designed offer HYROX athletes an opportunity to test speed and strength using the HYROX race set up. We are excited to announce The Getting Miles Athletic Club's first annual Fort Wayne Park Race Series! Participants age 12 and under are eligible to compete in this race series.  The Shoaff Park Long Mile, the first race of the series, is a1,5 mile loop on the paved recreation trail in Shoaff Park. Make sure you arrive early to find a good parking spot, warm up, use the restrooms and pick up your race bib. Series participants need to return their race bibs to the packet pickup station in order to receive points for the race. You will use the same race bib for all the events. Runners will receive a race decal to put on their bib at the finish line.  Be sure to return your race bib to packet pickup after you finish the race.
