The Tourism Trot 5K Run/Walk event aims to bring together students, faculty, staff, families, and members of the community for a fun, healthy activity while supporting an important initiative. The funds raised through registration fees, donations, and sponsorships will go directly towards the Jana Jordan Scholarship Fund, which helps to provide financial assistance to deserving students studying at Fort Hays State University.  Jana began her career in tourism as the International Group Tour Guide for Hays Travel for several years and then served 26 years as the Hays Convention and Visitors Bureau Director, retiring in 2014. She passed away in 2019 and a scholarship was created in her honor. She was a tremendous supporter of the tourism and hospitality program at FHSU. She supported a scholarship and made many connections across the state creating opportunities for students and moving forward many tourism initiatives. The annual Dash for Dawn Center 1-mile support walk helps to support survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. This year's event is hosted at the beautiful Tom Varn Park in Brooskville, FL. All proceeds go to Dawn Center, a nonprofit organization in Hernando County. The month of April is nationally recognized as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Join us at San Marco's Posting House for the third Biscuits and Bubbles 5km and Fun Run - Supporting Haven Retreats! Haven Retreats is a registered 501(c)3 whose mission is to create sustainability for foster and adoptive families. Haven hosts therapeutic retreats and provides wrap-around services for these foster and adoptive caregivers throughout the year. Danny Carothers was an outstanding leader in our community.  He lead quietly behind the scenes encouraging our better angels to love one another and help each other up.  Conquer the Hill is a 5K Run/Walk to honor Danny's leadership, bring us together to meet the needs of neighbors in our community and to move each other forward.  If you knew Danny, you know how his life and love impacted you.  Danny always told us, "we can do this together"! The race begins at 8:00am, with the WellFest kicking off at 10:00am. All proceeds will support CORE Community School and its mission to empower students through connection, kindness & understanding. This family-friendly event will feature fun for the whole family, including a 1-Mile Kids Fun Run! Join us for the 2nd Annual Run for a Pawpose 5K, Kids Fun Run (ages 10 & Under), and Doggie Run, which will take place on the evening of Saturday, April 18th. The Run for a Pawpose 5K benefits the Pups With Purpose program through the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. This special event helps support a program that gives shelter dogs a second chance, while providing inmates with valuable life, social, and vocational skills.  This event is open to walkers and runners of all ages, as well as dogs. All dogs in attendance must register in advance and proof of the dog's rabies vaccination must be submitted online. Registered dogs will receive a custom race doggie bandana. Human 5K and Fun Run race participants will receive a race t-shirt and a finisher medal. The Light Up the Night 5K is more than just a race—it’s a chance for the community to come together in support of one of its own. Join us as we Light Up the Night for Captain Shane Henson, a dedicated member of the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office who has faithfully served the community for more than 30 years. Captain Henson, a pillar of the Dawson County community, was involved in a serious automobile accident over the weekend of March 6–8, 2026. He has already undergone one extensive surgery and is currently undergoing a second surgery at the time this event is being announced. To support the Henson family during this life-altering time, the Dawson County Parks and Recreation Department invites the entire community to come out for the Light Up the Night 5K.
