George Freedom Days Run

Join us for a 5k Fun Run/Walk that shows off the Recreation trail in and around George, IA.  The start and finish are located in beautiful Locker Park.  Proceeds go to the improvement and maintenance of the trail system. Majority of route is on the city trail with only the first half mile on city streets. The run is on a mostly flat course with a few minor hills. Enjoy the scenery as you run on the trail through residential housing, campground, wooded area, and fields.  For those that do not want to run, we do offer a 1.25 mile (Approximate length) untimed leisurely walk. This event will start with those participating in the 5K, but will veer off and participants will then walk the north portion of the George Recreational Trail and finish at the 5k finish line. This event is for those who don't want to run/walk the entire 5K but still want to enjoy the Freedom Day Fun Run/Walk. Iron Horse 4 Miler

The Iron Horse 4 miler will raise funds to be donated to the ALS Ride for Life for their patient services at the Stony Brook Neuromuscular Disease and Christopher Pendergast ALS Center of Excellence. A program that provides best-in-class care with a collaborative approach to ensure quality of life for those living with ALS and their families. Currently there is no cure and is always 100% fatal. A note from the race director:My family has had multi-generational familial diagnosis of the fatal disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Familial ALS accounts for 5 to 10 percent of all ALS cases. The LL5K, hosted by Sweetheart City Racing is scheduled to begin at Grimm Brothers Brewhouse on July 4th at 8:00 am. We welcome runners and walkers, and all abilities! There is a cash purse for the top three males and females in the overall and masters divisions. The Elite corral/wave will start at 8:45m. The Downtown Mile is presented by Team Run Flagstaff.  In advance of the annual 4th of July parade, 6 waves of competitors will cover an iconic Mile on the actual parade route. The two-loop course heads north San Francisco, west on Cherry, south on Beaver, and west on Aspen to repeat the loop and finish.  The race includes six Mile events categories: Masters Women and Masters Men (40+), Citizen Men and Women (all ages), Elite Men and Women (competing for a cash purse) and the half-mile (one loop) highlight- the Kids Race.
