The Nags Head Woods 5K is the oldest charity race on the Outer Banks. Held annually on Saturday morning of Mother's Day Weekend, this year in 2026, this race celebrates its 40th Anniversary!! the NHW5K is a down and back race along the gravel road through the Nags Head Woods Ecological Preserve, which is part of The Nature Conservancy of North Carolina. There is also a fun run and a 1-mile "Walk in the Woods" that accompanies the main 5K race. First Flight Rotary Club hosts the event as one of it's signature fundraising events for the club Foundation. First Flight Rotary Club Foundation is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit that focuses on supporting charitable initiatives in and around the Outer Banks Community such as other nonprofits and service projects lead by the First Flight Rotary Club.

In Memory of Lisa Napoletano Lisa Napoletano was a Freshman at Marian and a member of the Cross Country and Track and Field teams. Early March, she was involved in an unfortunate ATV accident and passed away from her injuries. The Marian Community, Cross Country Team, and Track and Field Team was blessed to know her and have her in our lives, even for such a short period of time. Part of this event is dedicated to her memory and the impact she had on her school and her teams. In order to honor her, her family has set up a scholarship fund and non-profit organization "Lisa Napoletano-Running with the Angels" honoring her memory that is awarded to a member of the Cross Country Team, Track and Field Team, or is active in Snowboarding and that display strong team spirit and values academics. Day before Mother's Day, Saturday May 9, 2026 starting at 1130a.  Out and Back event starting and,  finishing  at Bike Lake Placid (455 Old Military Rd).  Fun at the finish will allow everyone to enjoy a post-race celebration including food, drink, music and awards.
