The Grind, A Gravel Circuit Race

A spectator-friendly gravel Circuit Race in Riverside State Park at the Seven Mile Airstrip on September 26, 2026.  This is an 11-mile loop with 3 distances to choose from: Grande (66 miles/6 laps), Medio (44 miles/4 laps), and Piccolo (22 miles/2 laps). This course features 577 feet of elevation per lap, wide-open trails and very little single track; perfect for gravel bikes, mountain bikes, cyclocross bikes, and hybrids. Road bikes are not recommended.  Start time: Grande 8:30am, Medio 9:30am, Piccolo 10:30am. No categories for fitness or skill, just choose the distance that best supports your riding ability and fitness level. The Big Hurt is a multi-sport race that includes four legs and participants can race solo in Iron Division or as a relay team. Big Hurt is unique in that all transitions are at the same location, making for an all-day party atmosphere. Even better, the transition is located on the beautiful waterfront in downtown Port Angeles. The bike portion of the race is a 10 mile scenic route and paved and closed roads taking you across Fred Howard Causeway and into historic Tarpon Springs. Our bike course is one of our favorite ways to showcase our beautiful town and it is well staff by the Tarpon Police Department and race volunteers. The run ends inside Fred Howard Park with a 5K that takes you back to the finish line right next to transition area. The “Runnin’ with the Dogs” Bulldog Band 5k Race will be on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Martinsburg High School!  The course will begin on the track at Martinsburg High School’s Cobourn Field. Support Henry Vilas Zoo and our wildlife ranger friends in the Ol Jogi Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya! Join us in celebrating the rich history of the Puyallup Valley with a scenic run along the river!This is a fast and relatively flat course, perfect for chasing a PR or enjoying a smooth, scenic run through the valley. Run/Walk To Save a Life is in honor of Christopher Andreozzi who passed away suddenly from sudden cardiac death caused by an arrhythmia on May 23, 2023. Christopher (Chris) was a lifelong resident of Hamden who graduated from Hamden High School, Trinity College, and Yale University.  Chris was a devoted psychiatric APRN at Yale New Haven Hospital and Turnbridge.  He was passionate about the care of his patients and believed that everyone should be treated with dignity and respect. Proceeds from this event will benefit the CJA Charitable Foundation, Inc.
