The Edison Park Turkey Trot is one of the longest running and most popular runs in the Chicago area. It began in 1995 when Mary O'Connor and Nancy Horn attended a suburban Thanksgiving race. The following day, Mary thought that Edison Park needed a Turkey Trot race of its own to celebrate the holiday as a community. Mary then approached local community members and asked them to start a 5K race on Thanksgiving morning. From there, a committee was formed and the planning began. As they planned for their race in 1996, they were told they would be lucky if they had 250 participants. However, they proved them wrong and had over 500 runners at the first Edison Park Turkey Trot. Over the last 29 years, the race has grown exponentially. The Turkey Trot welcomes over 6,000 participants on Thanksgiving morning. Our committee's goal has always been to bring people together and to raise money for worthy charities. Over the past 29 years we have done just that. We have donated well over a million dollars to various charities, and we have had runners and walkers from all across the country take part in the race. We are grateful for the thousands of participants who have joined us over the years, and we hope that our tradition of the Turkey Trot has become yours. We are honored that so many choose to spend Thanksgiving morning with us, as we run together to give back to wonderful charities.

Chapman Lake, located in Warsaw, IN is hosting their annual Gobble Wobble 5k on Thanksgiving Day. This growing race welcomed over 250 runners in 2025. This is a chip timed race. On Thanksgiving Day, we give thanks to God for all that we have; we also spend time thinking about and praying for those who have less. Everybody wants to help those in need on Thanksgiving Day; here is a way to do just that! All Saints Parish coordinates an offering of donations and in-person run/walk for the Sunman, North Dearborn, and East Central High School Food Pantries who are tremendous providers of food to the needy in Dearborn and Ripley County. Let’s help them help others- all the profits of this run/walk benefit these local food pantries.

Fishers YMCA Wishbone 5K The Wishbone 5K Run/Walk is an annual Thanksgiving event for the entire community. This year we’re celebrating 16 years of families coming together for a morning of fitness and fun. Leashed dogs and strollers are welcome along the route but, in the interest of safety, we ask that these participants start near the back of their corrals. Why Participate? The Wishbone 5K is the Fishers YMCA’s signature event for the Annual Campaign, which helps to subsidize memberships, programs, summer camp and before/after school care. Since the race began in 2011, nearly $650,000 has been raised to ensure that no one is sent away from the YMCA due to the inability to pay. More than 15,000 participants have grown the Wishbone 5K into the premier Thanksgiving run in our community. Every dime raised through your entry fees goes right to Faith Mission of Michiana to help feed and house those in need as our sponsors cover the fixed cost of the event. Distance Options 10k Run, 5k Run, 5k Walk You will begin on Jackson Street in Elkhart and run through the north end of town, then loop around through the historic neighborhood of Strong Avenue, with its wider streets and unique homes! We spread people out at the start so that you can go at your own pace and enjoy your morning.The 10k runs most of the same 5K course, as well as an additional mile around the Strong Avenue neighborhood and a lap around McNaughton park, which includes one small hill, to make up the additional 3.1 miles. 1mile Walk This is a lovely walk around Island Park, which you reach by crossing a bridge over the river. The trees are turning and it makes for lovely photo ops.Not a runner, that's ok! You can bring the stroller or your dog with your coffee and get your steps in with your house guests before the days festivities! TURKEY BURN 2026 NEW LOCATION!!! Freedom Park The Annual Turkey Burn is BACK!!!! We are excited to continue the amazing tradition started for the Ramey family over 10 years ago. This year the Annual Turkey Burn will be taking place at Freedom Park in Greenwood, Indiana on Thanksgiving Day morning! Gather your family, friends and arch rivals for this fun 5k and kids run to celebrate community and family. All proceeds raised will be going to The Refuge. The race is full of laughter, joy and of course the “Runners High” some of you speak so highly of.
