Climb the Mine 2026

Welcome to the First Annual Climb the Mine Hike in Hibbing, Minnesota. This one-of-a-kind community hike begins at the Greyhound Bus Museum & through Historic Old Hibbing, where the roots of our mining town first took hold more than a century ago. From there, participants will make their way through the heart of Hibbing and gradually climb to the breathtaking overlook at the Hull-Rust-Mahoning Mine View. This is an early-season triathlon and duathlon that is well suited as a training event for the seasoned athlete as well as an entry-level distance for those who are just deciding to plunge into their first event.  There will be an adult sprint triathlon & duathlon with a first wave start at 8 a.m. and two youth divisions (1) U-15 (ages 11-15) and (2) U-10 (7-10) with a first wave start at 11:15 a.m.  The event is centered on Greenville's beautiful Baldwin Lake and features a unique spectator experience from an elevated viewpoint above the lake and transition area on and along the Fred Meijer Flat River Trail.  The entire swim, transition, bike-in, 1/2 mile of the run, and the finish line can all be viewed from a single vantage point.

Teams of 2-4 people will trek, packraft, mountain bike and navigate their way through a course that explores this amazing and unique corner of the state.  With the highest concentration of public land in the state—dominated by the mighty and vast Monongahela National Forest, 400 miles of trails, extensive backcountry and wilderness, legendary mountain biking, and free-flowing rivers—teams can expect a course that is rugged, and relatively remote for a race of this length. Red Cedar Trail Races at Giant City State Park

Nestled in the Shawnee National Forest, Giant City State Park is a premier destination for hiking, lodging, and camping in southern Illinois. We are now proud to offer a premier trail (heavy) ½ marathon and 40k primarily utilizing the Red Cedar Trail.  The course will consist mostly of single track, but will have some gravel road connectors, horse trails, fields, and less than a mile of paved road connectors. The trail varies from very technical to runnable in sections, boasting over 1800 feet of elevation gain (one half-marathon loop).  Also, expect the possibility of getting your feet wet in several creek crossings, rain dependent!  As an incentive to our teen and cross country runners, they will be capped at a $40 entry to the half-marathon.  We want to encourage our youth to run the trails in southern Illinois.  Also, the t-shirt is now an add-on instead of an automatic upcharge for those who wish to forgo a race shirt.  (If you change your mind, there should be some extra at packe
