The Ohio Valley Trail Partners presents the 19th annual tour of the Wheeling Heritage Trail on Sunday, May 24th. The 14th Annual Theresa Borgia 5K Run/Walk & Children's Fun Run will be held Sunday, May 24, 2025, 9:30am at the Lackawanna Heritage Trail on Olive Street. Theresa Borgia was a long-time member of the JCC of Scranton. She was a tireless advocate for breast cancer awareness and a well-known volunteer for the annual Komen Race for the Cure. Her initial diagnosis was in 1997, and after years in remission she was back in treatment in 2006. In November of 2010, Theresa lost her thirteen-year fight with breast cancer. The Tough as Nails Urban Challenge presented by The Health Plan is a 20+ obstacle, 5+ mile challenge will push participants to the limit downtown in the city of Wheeling, WV on Sunday, May 24, 2026. The Westmont Park District has partnered with the local nonprofit People’s Resource Center (PRC) so that proceeds from the race can benefit neighbors in need, right here in our community. As a partner in the community, PRC helps to meet neighbors’ basic needs such as food, shelter, and clothing assistance services. In addition, PRC provides job, computer, and literacy training programs and art empowerment classes to help neighbors in need here in DuPage County. The Springfield Bicycle Club is excited to renew our popular Sangamon Gravel Series, and rebrand as the Thunder Road Gravel tour!  Last year we brought you all together for a series of rides around Springfield.  This year, we're expanding the series to a wider region!  Join us for a series of rides from May through August and explore what the central Illinois has to offer when you venture off of the beaten path. Ride specifics are TBD, but expect something in the ballpark of 30 and 60 mile options with a convenience store stop in the middle.  After each ride, we'll have an optional takeover of a local brewery/bar/restaurant. This is a no-cost series, so there will be no SAG offered. Raising awareness about T1D  Camp Sweeney's Play for the Day was created 14 years ago by a group of Camp Sweeney camper parents to raise awareness for T1D, or type 1 diabetes. T1D affects 1 in 400 children and can lead to devastating medical complications such as eye disease, kidney disease, and damaged cardiovascular and nervous systems.  However, proper diabetes management can greatly reduce the probability of future complications.  Camp Sweeney provides these children with a motivating support system to overcome these struggles. The Fallen Warrior Foundation is deeply honored to host the 8th annual Sgt David Hierholzer Memorial Day 50k. On Memorial Day, we will embark together as a unit to run the 32-ish miles across Marshall County—from the north county line to the south county line. The group typically averages around 10-10:30 minutes per mile pace stopping every 3-5 miles to regroup. Please understand this run is not a race. It is a journey. It is a journey to honor and remember those who have sacrificed everything to purchase and protect our freedom. Seven years ago, a single man set out to honor his best friend who was killed in action. The journey to remember on foot began to resonate with many across the county. Just as one man’s sacrifice saved many, one person’s desire to never forget that sacrifice created a rippling effect. Event Description The name of this event says it all… Because of the Brave!  We love this country and all of us enjoy the freedom of living in the United States of America.  However, this freedom we enjoy came at a price.  On this Memorial Day, come out and join us in an event that truly honors the brave men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.  Because of the Brave 5K is truly about reflecting on this sacrifice that was made by so many of our heroes.   These men and women carried their American flag and served our country with honor.  What better way to honor them, than to carry an American flag while running/walking a 5K?  As part of this event, each runner/walker must carry a 2’x 3’ American flag during the entire 5K course.  The flag will be affixed to a pole so it will be easy to carry.  The flag and pole together will be light so even children will be able to participate. Abe's Army is a 12 week program to get runners and walkers of all abilities to their best finish at Abe's Amble 5k/10k in August.  You must be a SRRC member to join, the option to join the club is included in this registration. The program starts May 25, 2026 and runs through race day. Register early to be guaranteed a shirt! Run to Remember VB is a charitable race, conceived by four widows of Navy SEALs who were killed in action along with 26 other service members on August 6, 2011. In the midst of our grief, we felt extreme gratitude for the communities who rallied to support us- Naval Special Warfare, Virginia Beach, and many others around the nation. Our gratitude led us to create this event to bring people together to celebrate the true meaning of Memorial Day while giving back to organizations whose mission is to support families of fallen service members. Run to Remember VB is held on Memorial Day at the Military Aviation Museum in Pungo, VA. The morning begins with the National Anthem and the presentation of colors. Free kids fun run for ages 8 and under. Fun Run will start at 8:30 am immediately followed by the 5k / 2 mile walk. You can register on race day as well. Java Jog 5K run/2 mile walk.
