3rd Annual Color Run/Walk around Central York High School in honor of Erin Walker. Erin was an amazing teacher at Central York High school and would want nothing more than to give back to the students. The Boots on the Ground for Heroes Memorial 5K Walk/Run will take place following a ceremony honoring the 29 Rhode Islander’s killed post 9/11 in the Global War on Terror.   The course will run through picturesque Fort Adams State Park and begin and end on the parade field inside the historic Fort.  Proceeds from the 5k will support the Memorial and Operation Stand Down Rhode Island, the State’s primary non-profit serving homeless and at-risk veterans.   Registered participants are asked to arrive beginning at 7:30am. A 25-minute ceremony honoring the fallen will begin at 9:00am, followed by the start of the Run/Walk at 10:00 am.    The Boots on the Ground for Heroes Memorial was launched by OSDRI in 2016. The Memorial depicts over 7,000 boots adorned with flags and name placards representing the lives of the U.S. service members killed in action post-9/11 in the Global War on Terror. We’re excited to announce the 2026 SSgt Jason Hicks Memorial 5k.  This race is in its 14th year.  All proceeds benefit the SSgt. Jason Hicks Memorial Scholarship Fund. Jason and five other US Air Force Combat Search and Rescue airmen were killed in action while on a humanitarian mission in Afghanistan in 2003 as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Since then, the Scholarship has been awarded annually to a graduating senior from Central High School in Pageland, SC, which was Jason’s alma mater. Any Central High School graduating senior may apply for the Scholarship.  Applicants should demonstrate leadership abilities and community service.  A Scholarship application for the current school year can be printed by clicking the application link on this site. Cherry Pickin’ 5K Wave Race                              At Leona Valley Elementary Saturday, May 23, 2026  The 5K WAVE RACE! This is a handicapped race based on Age-Graded tables. If you are a good runner for your age or gender, you could WIN this race! Lift for Kindness is a team-based weightlifting fundraiser built around lifting each other up. Participants will complete weightlifting challenges as individuals and teams.Donations may be pledged per pound lifted, per participant, per team, or across multiple pledges. All proceeds supports kindness, mental health awareness, and youth-focused anti-bullying programs.

As many of you may already know, a valued member of our Nonnewaug school community, Jon Cheung, was recently diagnosed with Leukemia.  Just as he always has done in the classroom, on the sports fields, and in life, Jon is giving his all in this fight and the whole community is behind him.  Our chapter of the Math Honor Society, of which Jon is a member want to show support and help raise funds to assist with the medical costs that his recover process involves so that him and his family can focus their attention on his health.  To that end, we have planned a charity 5K walk/jog/run on Nonnewaug's campus for the 23rd of May.  We hope you will show your support by signing up and enjoying a fun race with music, games, food, and more.  If you have any questions, please email rrobillard@ctreg14.org or text 860-605-3730.   The race will be hand timed by our students and results will be posted afterwards.

The Dustin L. Doyon Memorial Road Race is being held on Saturday May 23, 2026 at Suffield Middle School. All money raised will go towards a scholarship fund in Dustin's name. The 5K Run/Walk and 10K Run starts at Suffield Middle School and is a down and back course on Hill Street (ending again at the Middle School). The race begins at 9:25 am. Include a 5K in your Memorial Day Weekend plans! Over the last 13 years we have donated over $41,000.00 to our local volunteer fire department. Our event has enabled the LVFD to purchase new equipment used for fighting fires throughout our county.  Our 5K course loops through the beautiful neighborhood of Leonard's Grant and is USAT&F certified and chip-timed. Our Fun Run course draws about 80 little runners each year to kick off the morning's festivities. 5K medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in the following age categories: Overall, 13 & Under, 14-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60, 61+ Register here for $40.
