Bob's Vets of Highlands County is excited to announce our first Veteran's Day 5K RUN/WALK (Faith and Freedom 5K) this fall. We have been trying to think of more fun and unique ways to celebrate our veterans and since Highlands County is known for their love of running, we thought 5K would be a great idea. Our event will be held at Highlands Hammock State Park on Saturday November 8th at 8:00 AM. A History of the MCL/TEL Semper Fi 5K Charity Run for Children The origin of the run was as a fundraiser for the children and families of the Marines and Sailors who had perished in the Marine Barracks Beirut, Lebanon terrorist bombing attack on October 23, 1983. Marine 1stLt Chris Holzworth, having recently reported to the Marine Air Training and Support Group-21 (MATSG-21), Naval Air Station Pensacola, for flight training, presented the idea for the charity run to the CommandingOfficer, Colonel Robert “Bull” Bland, USMC. MATSG-21 adopted the idea and became the first sponsor of the event, initially named The Beirut Relief 10K Run. Colonel Bland assigned 1st Lt Chris Holzworth, who had initiated the idea, as the first Race Director. NAS Pensacola hosted the first run on Armed Forces Day in May 1984 with Brigadier General Joseph Hoar, USMC representing Headquarters Marine Corps and receiving the proceeds of the race. Supporting Literacy in Palm Beach County Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is an award-winning book gifting program for children under age five. The Imagination Library has gifted over 300 million books since 1995, to children in five countries! The program mails each child enrolled a high-quality book each month, at no cost to the family, from birth through their fifth birthday. A salute to Vets to kick off Veteran's Week and to raise funds for Alamosa's Veterans Memorial Park. Join us for the 5th Annual Veterans Memorial Park Race. 5k and 10k race options are available. The race will once again start and end at the Alamosa Family Recreation Center, 2222 Old Sanford Rd, Alamosa, CO 81101. The 10k race repeats 5k lap twice. Our community is the only city in the nation to follow the old tradition of ringing bells throughout the town in the early morning hours of Veteran’s Day. This race will mimic some of those old traditions to honor our nation's veteran community. We are honored to be part of this event and look forward to the engagement of the families in Loveland. This event benefits Post 2000, which is created a Loveland Colorado Veteran's Assistance program.

Ride the hidden, unridden, and forbidden San Diego to support pancreatic cancer research!  Cycle through scenic areas of San Diego on November 8th to support pancreatic cancer research in the 12th Annual Jim Krause Memorial Charity Cycling Ride the Point. The ride starts and ends at Liberty Station and includes exclusive routes through Point Loma, Ocean Beach, Mission Bay La Jolla, Torrey Pines, and Sorrento Valley. This ride takes participants through historic neighborhoods and past some of the most scenic areas of San Diego, some that are only open once a year for this event. This race is put on by the Knights of Columbus Council 10232 and Council 17519 of Madison. 100% of the proceeds goes to Madison City Schools. This is part of a nationwide campaign put on by the Knights of Columbus.   Since we support the whole of Madison City Schools, the race begins and ends at the Madison City Stadium next to the Madison City Schools admin building and runs through downtown Madison. This fun and impactful event supports the club’s High School Scholarship Program, which in 2024 awarded a $5,000 4 year college and a $1,500 trade school scholarship to two Tulare High School seniors.  Event Details: Date & Location: The race begins and ends at Live Oak Park, Tulare, offering a scenic route and plenty of space to enjoy the day.   Time: Onsite registration and bib pickup will run from 8:00 am to 8:45 am, with the race starting promptly at 9am.   Registration: This year we are charging a registration fee of $15 per participant. The BEER & BAGEL OFF-ROAD RACE SERIES is coming back to Yeager’s Farm & Market in Phoenixville, PA. with a new twist.  For 2026, we are introducing two new events making this a 2-day race weekend. In addition to our traditional 4-mile(ish) run on Sunday (11/8/26), we are creating a 10-mile(ish) off-road run for preceding Saturday (11/7/26).
