An endurance challenge that traverses the Commonwealth of Massachusetts following the Appalachian Midstate Trail during the peak of Autumn. The idea the for Midstate Massive Ultra Trail (MMUT) was introduced to Rich by TMIRCE co-founder Andy Marx, based on inspiration from observing the Fastest Known Time (FKT) of a self-supported, 23 hour 43 minute traverse of the Midstate Trail by Greg Soutiea, Jake Dissinger and Chad Hornbaker in 2015. The Midstate Massive Ultra Trail 100M, 50M and 30M races will wind through the mountains, fields, roads and rivers of central Massachusetts, with border crossings in New Hampshire and Rhode Island. The timed off road 5K course winds through a wooded trail and registrants have the option of either running or walking (map of 5K course). All race participants have the option to run/walk with their dog or cat in stroller. Dogs must be leashed. Hosted at Pleasants Landing Marina at Lake Anna, this race and venue are amazing. The time trial swim takes place in the southeast portion of Lake Anna, about 1/4 mile from where the “hot side” of Lake Anna empties into the cold side, resulting in water temperatures that are 4-6 degree’s warmer than the rest of the lake at this time of year. So, you  can look forward to above average water temperatures in mid-October. The last open water race of the regular season Olympic starts at 9AM and the Sprint starts at 9:30AM, so you can sleep in a little and make it a day at the lake with family and friends. The race site and finish line are surrounded by water and have a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the West; it’s a great place to spend the weekend outside. Trail shoes are not required but suggested, as are gaiters. ALL runners (except 4.35 1 loop) are required to start the race with a water bottle, belt, hand held or vest. The 2026 River Roux Olympic Triathlon will be held on October 10th!   River Roux features a 1.5K swim, 40K bike ride, and a 10K run in historic New Roads. The 50th Annual Apple Festival 5k and 1 mile race is a great way to start the Georgia Apple Festival presented by the Ellijay Lions Club.  It is one of the longest running 5K events in Georgia.

The Tails & TaTas Breast Cancer Awareness 5k Run/Walk in partnership with Swope Family of Dealerships will be held in a hybrid format allowing both virtual and in-person participation. The start/finish line for the dog-friendly run will begin at the Swope Toyota Dealership and wind through Freeman Lake Park. We have also added a 1-mile fun run for the 12 and under group. As in the past10 years, all funds will be given to the Baptist Health Foundation Hardin.  For the 5k Run - Awards will be given to the overall 1st place finisher male & female runners.  For the 1 mile fun run - Awards will be given for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place male & female runners. OUR WHY One of the hardest parts of the CDH journey is the isolation you experience. Meeting up with families who are walking this same path can be so life giving. We want to provide the space and place for you to do just that! Whether you are the parent/family/friend of a child who has survived CDH or a child who has passed from CDH please join us. We will have an afternoon of walking, talking, games and of course a cookout. We will spend the hours from 4pm-6pm connecting and then at 6:30pm we will begin lighting the luminaries and begin the moment of silence as we walk amongst the lighted names of those whose lives were unfairly cut short from this diagnosis. If you cannot attend the walk you can still purchase luminaries for your loved ones. We will be live-streaming the lighting ceremony so that everyone can participate. The 26th Annual North American Wife Carrying Championship® returns to Sunday River on Saturday, October 10, 2026, as part of our Fall Fest weekend. It’s weird, wild, and wildly entertaining—this one-of-a-kind event draws competitors and spectators from across the globe to see who has what it takes to carry their partner to victory. Teams race on foot through a 278-yard obstacle course that includes log hurdles, a sand trap, and the fan-favorite “Widow Maker” water hazard. The fastest two teams from the qualifying rounds will advance to a final heat to compete for the championship title—and some pretty quirky prizes, including the wife’s weight in beer and five times her weight in cash. Not Married? No Problem.Couples don’t have to be legally married, but teams must consist of one man and one woman, and both must be at least 21 years old on race day, to qualify for the world championship.
