What started as a Thanksgiving morning run has turned into a tradition. Come build that Thanksgiving appetite by running the 6.2 mile certified course through the beautiful Golden Springs community. This ARC event benefits the YMCA. Walkers are welcome! Come and participate as a family. Overall male and female winners receive a Turkey Breast from The Honey Baked Ham Company. Overall 2nd & 3rd male and female receive Yummy Pies. AGE GROUP Awards M/F = 9 and under, 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+ and over. The course is USATF certified and we will have chip timing. 2026 will have early packet pick-up! We are back on the Boone Greenway Trail for the 16th Annual High Country Turkey Trot! Choose from a 5K or 10K timed race or an untimed Fun Run/Walk. Taking place on Thanksgiving morning, The High Country Turkey Trot is open to competitive runners, casual joggers, walkers, and fun runners. Far from just a race, the event is fun for the entire family and includes a live DJ, photo-staging area, costumes, and a picnic shed full of food and hot drinks. NEW FOR 2026: We've updated the course route by reducing elevation gain and improving the terrain. That means less hill climbs and more stable footing! The Murphy Scholarship is Leesville Road High School's first endowed scholarship. Founded in 2011 in memory of Leesville's first principal, Richard J. Murphy, it seeks to inspire incoming students by recognizing the best of our graduating senior class. The major fundraiser for the scholarship is the Leesville Community Turkey Trot, presented by Murray Moyer. Our USATF-certified 5K race takes place on local neighborhood roads and serves as both a great volunteer opportunity and an informal reunion for Leesville alumni and families. Come cover the course that thousands of runners have conquered prior to their Thanksgiving festivities.  There is a High School Team competition.  The team competition only requires 3 athletes from a school to be awarded team points (boys & girls, no co-ed competition) Proceeds will benefit the Winged Foot Foundation. Celebrate Thanksgiving weekend and the lighting of Christmas Mountain in Salida with a 5 mile and 1 mile race!  The 5 mile course begins and ends by Riverside Park in downtown Salida. Race course is very scenic and mostly flat (around 160 feet of elevation gain) and takes place on city and county roads and gravel or concrete pedestrian paths. This event is designed for all runners, and we encourage all ages and abilities to come out!  Packet pickup, post race drinks and snacks, and awards will also take place in Riverside Park in downtown Salida.   Race begins at 10am, giving participants time to sleep in after Thanksgiving, and then relax with friends and family before heading back to downtown Salida for the lighting of Christmas Mountain.  Festivities in town associated with this event include the annual Christmas Mountain parade, beginning at 6pm, followed by fireworks.  This is one of Salida's biggest and most celebratory nights each year.   The goals of this event are to encou
