Autism Awareness Fun Walk

April is National Autism Awareness Month! This month is about increasing an understanding and acceptance of individuals with autism.  This year we want to offer a Fun Walk on Saturday, April 4th from 10 am – 12 pm at Bruce Meisner Park.  You can register for free or there is a $10 donation option to participate, which will enter you in a raffle! T-shirts are also available for pre-sale. We cannot guarantee there will be shirts to purchase the day of the event. Last day to purchase is Sunday, March 15th. Proceeds will be used to purchase sensory bags for Highland Recreation Center, and the rest of the proceeds will go towards purchasing supplies for We Rock the Spectrum-Hickory to be able to continue to run successful programs for the community!  If you are unable to participate but would still like to support the cause, visit the more tab and click "store" to purchase a t-shirt!

MRT 2026 Last Runner Standing 1 Mile

Last Man Standing 1 Mile race at the Statesville Soccer Complex.  Participants will run 1 mile under 10 minutes.  Each participant that finishes under the 10-minute window will have 5 minutes to rest from when the last participant finishes.  This format will continue for each mile dropping the finishing time by 30 seconds each mile until no one finishes under the required time   Awards for overall, masters & 5 year age groups nightly. This race will be part of the 2026 Championship Series.  Run in 10 races throughout the year and accumulate points. Join us in Historic Downtown Dunn for the first installment of the Rock the Run 5k.  This is in conjunction with the Lucknow Music Festival which will be held later in the day.  The course will be flat and fast and temperatures this time of year are generally favorable for faster racing.  The race will start behind Sherry's Bakery on Edgerton wind it's way through some residential sections of Dunn and finish in front of the Link Wray Mural.  Proceeds from the race will go to the Downtown Dunn Development Corporation.    Medals will be presented to the top 3 overall female and male.  Age group medals will be given to females and males based on USAT&F 10 year groupings: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and up.

Catamount Climb Half Marathon & 5K

The 2026 Catamount Climb Half Marathon and 5K will be hosted on the campus of Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC along the banks of the Tuckasegee River. The 5K course is completely on campus and navigates through the heart of campus with moderate elevation change. The half marathon course starts on campus, and then heads off campus for a few miles before returning back to campus for the finish line. The Catamount Climb Half Marathon and 5K (formerly known as Valley of the Lilies) is hosted by the Western Carolina University School of Health Sciences and the Department of Campus Recreation & Wellness. Kevin Dendy Memorial 5K

Come out and join us on Saturday, April 11th for the 5th Annual Kevin Dendy Memorial 5K! This year the race will be starting at Eno River Brewing and running through Hillsborough's beautiful River Walk.    Captain Kevin Dendy was local to the Hillsborough/North Durham community. He was commissioned into the North Carolina National Guard and served one tour in Kuwait during the initial wave of the Covid-19 pandemic and provided essential medical care to soldiers serving overseas. Kevin had a love for everything outdoors - running, hiking, swimming, and riding his motorcycle. On December 29 of 2021, Kevin tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident. Proceeds from this race will benefit Vets to Vets United. It is a 72-mile team-running event that travels from the peaks to the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, through local craft breweries, and into quaint southern towns.  The 9th Annual event will be held on April 11, 2026. Join us on April 11, 2026 at 10:00 am to run a 5K for Elsie Dawn West, the newest addition to the West family. Parents are Colton & Caitlyn West, of Hiawassee GA. Elsie also has an older brother, Cash, just shy of 2 years old. This race will begin at the pavilion once entering the Clay County Park Campground. The race will go from there along the Chatuge Dam Trail and back.  Elsie is currently in the cardiac center at the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Shortly after being home from the hospital from birth, Elsie ended up having to go to ICU. In summary, Elsie as congenital heart defects. Elsie is going to be going down a "single ventricle pathway" with a grand total of 3 heart surgeries. We know this is overwhelmingly hard for Elsie, her parents, brother, and immediate family members.
