US Road Running Races US Road Running races are built for runners and walkers who like friendly, low-pressure race days with just enough competition to keep things exciting. Our events are local, welcoming, and easy to jump into, whether you are chasing a PR, collecting another themed medal, working toward series points, or just getting outside with good people. Most races are small enough to feel personal but organized enough to feel official. You can expect a clear course, helpful race staff, finisher medals, results, and a relaxed community feel. Bring your fast shoes, your steady walking pace, your favorite running buddy, or your best “I signed up for this on purpose” smile. We will be glad to see you at the start line. A quick race-day note: because many US Road Running events are small local races, we normally have one or two staff members at each race. Can you run half-naked in the cold January air? While we certainly don't expect this of everyone, this "stripped down" format for the race was tied to its humble beginnings, and it has evolved and grown since then. All half marathon finishers will receive a finisher medal. All quarter and half marathon runners will receive a long-sleeve t-shirt! It is quite the accomplishment to complete a HALF MARATHON! This year, both the half and quarter marathons WILL BE CHIP TIMED! The half marathon course is certified and will count as an official time. Race Information Decatur's first ever marathon, and on a micro-marathon course!  We are excited to host the first full distance marathon on a course that is fast and USATF certified.  We will also host a 10K and 5K event on the same day on flat, fast race courses.  All net proceeds from this event go to the Decatur High School Track and Field team to support their upcoming race season. Want to start the new year out on the right foot?  Then the Forging Families 5K/10K and 1 Mile is for you!  This race offers a flat(ish), fast USATF-certified course for the 5K and 10K and chip timing.  It's a great way to begin the new year focusing on a healthy you and helping an Alabama family bring a child home forever. This event supports Sacred Selections, a not-for-profit organization that assists families in their quest to adopt a child.  It's a pretty amazing organization.  They operate with a volunteer board and minimal administrative costs. All proceeds from this race will be donated to Sacred Selections to reduce the financial burden on a family willing to give a child a home. Kick off the New Year with a 5K! Eden Career Tech Center located in Ashville, Alabama will be hosting the fourth annual Resolution Run on January 23, 202, at 8:00am. Registration closes at 7:30am on the morning of the run. T-shirts are guaranteed until January 1st. This is a chip-timed, challenging race off of the ECTC Campus, down County Road 33, loop around Harper Lane, and back to the ECTC campus. Water will be provided at the halfway mark. Race Day- February 20, 2027 Event Location- Spain Park High School The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama Kids Marathon is not a Fun Run. Even though it will be fun, it is an innovative five month endurance building running/walking program designed for children kindergarten (K5) through 5th grade. Children will run the distance of a full marathon (26.2 miles) over the course of the five month program. To achieve this goal, kids must train for the last mile of their marathon by running a total of 25.2 miles in 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, 3/4 mile or 1 mile increments between September 2026 through February 2027 to qualify for race day participation. Join us February 28th for a 5K Run/Walk event in support of the Alexandria High School Cross Country Team. Let's Run Through The Russell Forest!! The Russell Forest Run is a race that carries runners on a certified course over sand, clay, and gravel roads that were designed for runners, bicycles, and electric cars. The scenic route will still start at Russell Crossroads, and will still take runners near Kob’s Knob, up to Heaven, and back to the finish line near The Stables at Russell Crossroads. The 10K will start promptly at 7:45am with a machine gun blast from the Town Green at Russell Crossroads. The 5K, also an out and back, begins at the Town Green and will start with the machine gun blast soon after 10K. Of course the finish line is near The Stables, the home of our post-race party, where you'll find our World Famous Grits Bar, live music and more! The Charger Pump & Run 5K on February 27, 2027 is a unique fitness event on the UAH Campus for college students and the local running community. This is a University of Alabama Homecoming weekend event open to all friends, family, alumni, and current students! Race day registration & race day packet pick-up will begin at 7:45 AM, with the race itself starting at 9:00 AM. The course will the a USATF Certified 5K Course! During race day registration & packet pick-up participants can complete bench-press reps to take time off their 5K finish time. Women will be asked to complete reps with a weight of 55lbs & men will complete reps with 135lbs. Each successful rep will deduct 5 seconds from their finish time. Participants will be able to complete reps until they fail or they re-rack the bar. Snacks, water, and refreshments will be provided at the University Fitness Center where the race will start! This is our 2nd annual Stride4Sophia race. This event is held in loving memory of our daughter, Sophia, who passed away at the age of 15 one year ago due to mental health struggles. Sophia was a bright light from Arab / Joppa area – full of laughter, kindness, and witt. She and her twin sister Madelyn were inseparable on the Arab Knights cross country and track teams, running varsity and junior varsity Cross Country and Track together. Sophia had a special gift for making every runner feel included, her and her sister, Madelyn, would make bows for their teammates to wear on race day, and Sophia was always near the finish line, cheering the loudest with that big smile and words that kept everyone going. She deeply loved others and was always there to help when someone was in need. Through this race, we hope to honor Sophia’s life while working to ensure that other families have access to the mental health support and resources they deserve.Join us for Sophia's Stride Charity 5K to honor her joy, heart, and encouragement on the trails she loved. The Wild Irish Run, held on March 13, 2027, will mark its 49th Anniversary. A brief history of the race includes the first organized running of the now called "Wild Irish Run" by the Lake Guntersville Track Club in 1978. At the time, the levee was utilized for the race. In 1979, “The Wild Irish Run” was given its first official name and called the "Lake Guntersville 10,000" hosted by the Lake Guntersville Track Club. This course became sanctioned in 1980 by the Road Runners Club of America and added .2 miles to be an official 10K course. In 1984, the race was held on Saint Patrick’s Day and subtitled the “1984 Saint Patrick’s Wild Irish Run”; and the “Wild Irish Run” name stuck. This race has earned the reputation of being one of the oldest 10K races in Alabama and has been chosen as an Alabama TopTen Event in past years. This all-paved fast course with small rolling hills takes you through downtown Guntersville and a scenic tour along beautiful Lake Guntersville (USATF certified course # AL12015JD). Within the last 10 years, due to the popularity to the shorter runs, we implemented and had certified a 5K course into our Wild Irish Run event. Our 5K course is an all-paved surface that takes you through a scenic trail along Lake Guntersville (USATF certified course # AL19009JE). The Wild Irish Run is now hosted by the City of Guntersville Recreation Department and is held on the Saturday of or the closest Saturday before Saint Patrick’s Day. The top three overall female and male finishers will win the Wild Irish Run trophy and medal. Age division medals will be awarded to the top three female and male finishers. The FBI Agents Association (FBIAA) is hosting its Third Annual local G-Man 5K and Kid's Fun Run at Choccolocco Park, Oxford, AL, benefiting the FBIAA Memorial College Fund (MCF). The Kid's Fun Run is open to kids 13 and under. All proceeds, including the sale of FBIAA merchandise associated with this event, directly support the FBIAA MCF. Since its inception, the FBIAA MCF has provided over $13 million in college scholarships to over 300 students. The FBIAA MCF supported 42 students attending 37 different colleges in the 2023 - 2024 school year by covering up to 75% of expenses, including tuition, room and board, and books. There are currently more than 95 children that the FBIAA MCF will assist once they are old enough to attend college. Unfortunately, this number continues to grow as the FBI experiences more deaths.
