The Speedway in Lights 5K returns for its 16th year on Sunday, Nov. 15, when more than 1,000 festive participants will be the first to tour the region's largest and most dazzling holiday lights display when the endurance race begins at 6 p.m. The run/walk event will wind through the new Speedway In Lights course that has been updated for 2026 with 40 new displays. The 5K will begin near the track’s Entrance No. 2 beside the BMS South Building and make a loop running up and back down the historic quarter-mile Bristol Dragway before returning to the legendary high-banked oval where they will enter the stadium at the track’s pit gate and make a left hand turn down the track’s backstretch in a counterclockwise direction before finally crossing the finish line which will be positioned just before Turn 2. The La Porte By the Bay Half Marathon starts at Sylvan Beach Park by the water. The course takes runners through La Porte streets and onto the Fred Hartman Bridge, one of Texas' most distinctive structures. The bridge features twin steel towers reaching 440 feet high, with yellow cables that stand out against the sky. After completing two bridge crossings, runners finish at Five Points Plaza where they can enjoy a post-race party featuring good food, cold beer, and awards. All finishers receive a medal. This event is the third race in the Texas Bridge Series, organized by 3 Bros Running Company.

The Horace Mann PTA is hosting its 6th annual Great Turkey Chase 5K & Fun Run, and we are so excited! This is one of the few opportunities we have during the school year where we can come together as a community - families, teachers, and neighbors - to celebrate our amazing school and faculty, as well as have a great time!  Why are we running? Over 75% of the PTA’s fundraising dollars go towards the salaries of many of our partner teachers and specialists – funds that are not provided by DCPS. The PTA also supports a myriad of initiatives, including educational programs like gardening and language, professional development opportunities, classroom enrichment, facility enhancements, and more! The GCHS Booster Club Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk will take place at Grayslake Central High School.  The race starts and ends on the GCHS track.  All proceeds will help support the high school athletic program financial needs throughout the year. Join us for our all-charity event to raise funds for local veteran's causes and to honor those who have served. Our course isn't for sissies. It is beautiful, hilly, rural country, but our course is almost entirely paved. We have a free Pasta Party in Salem at packet pick up; our post-race party is legendary; we are small enough to provide personal attention to each runner, walker, sponsor, and volunteer. Plan to join us!

Please join us on November 22nd to walk, run, skip, hop, roll or stroll a 5K to kick off Thanksgiving Break! There will also be a shorter Fun Run so everyone can participate! Stay and enjoy offerings from local food trucks as well as cheer on your school’s mascot as they race for the glory at 10:15! Members of PTOs from every elementary school in USD437 have collaborated to put on this fun event for the kids and community! All funds raised will be divided amongst the schools equally.

These races and walks have raised the initial funds for the Academy of Notre Dame Rachel Morrison Science Lab.  With the Science Lab now completed, the money raised will be used to fund the annual Rachel Morrison Scholar/Athlete Award and also the Rachel Morrison Science Scholarship Fund.  This run was done each year around Thanksgiving by Rachel and her friends on her high school cross country course at the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsborough, MA. Rachel had hoped to establish an annual alumni run similar to those held at nearby high schools.  She and her friends brought cans of food and other non-perishable food items to the run to be distributed to a local food pantry.   Now we run to remember Rachel.  Rachel was a 4th year PhD student at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla CA until her tragic death from a hit and run drunk driver on the night of March 28, 2014 in the city of Del Mar, CA. 2.5K and 5K Fun Run/Walk

Annual Worthington Waddle 5K Run/Walk.  Hosted by Tri Kappa.  Part of the Mag 7.  All proceeds to benefit Worthington Tri Kappa's charities.  Packet pick-up and new registrations will start at 8:00am at the park in the Community Building.  Race will kick off at 9:00am for both runners and walkers.  If you would like a t-shirt, you need to be registered no later than November 9, 2025.  After that date, the shirts will be available while supplies last.  You also have the option to not get a t-shirt.  If you would not like a t-shirt, your entry fee will be discounted $5.00. After the race, we will have doughnuts, hot chocolate, apple cider, coffee, and fruit for all race participants.  Top male and female walkers and runners will win a turkey.  Walkers must walk the whole race to be eligible for a turkey.  The person with the "hammiest" costume wins a prize too!

Turkey Trot for the Twig returns in 2026 on the Saturday before Thanksgiving and it is still all about the Kids!!  The event is to benefit children in the foster care system and the programs of The Twig Cares. The Turkey Trot for the Twig has sold out for four years running so don't wait too long to register. #HonorMark: The purpose of the #HonorMark initiative is to carry on a local hero’s legacy of service and sacrifice by giving back to the community he served through charitable donations.  Mark Edward Hummeldorf served our nation in the armed forces with the Marine Corps for 4 years and as a firefighter/paramedic for Southside Fire and EMS, Bryan County Emergency Services, Savannah Fire Rescue, and Parris Island Fire Rescue. During his time in the Marine Corps, Mark was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery, which he also exemplified daily in his actions as a first responder. Unfortunately, our community lost this hero on November 22, 2017 when Mark was tragically taken from us at the young age of 33; he left behind his beautiful wife and two wonderful children. Call to action: Mark’s enthusiastic attitude and service before self would want us to put our running shoes on and join his family for our 9th annual event.
