Pedal the Gap

Cumberland Gap, TN
Pedal the Gap is a first year cycling event, with the staging point the historic town of Cumberland Gap, TN.  Five route distance options are offered, ranging from the beginner friendly 20 miler up to the 77 mile route that includes the famous Pinnacle climb. Those choosing the Pinnacle (77 or 55 mile options) will enter Kentucky through the mile long Cumberland Gap tunnel to Cumberland Gap National Park, where they will start the 3.1 mile/6.6 % "classic mountain" climb to the famous Pinnacle overlook. After conquering the double digit grade switchbacks, cyclists are treated to breathtaking views of Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia. After climbing the Pinnacle, cyclists will travel back through the tunnel into TN, and can choose from two flat to rolling loops that will give them a total ride distance of either 77 or 55 miles.  Cyclists choosing NOT to do the challenging Pinnacle climb will have options of 25, 40, or 62 miles, all starting in Cumberland Gap and all totally loca

The Race to the Rock 5K is back!  As most of you know, Chimney Rock and Lake Lure were devastated by Hurricane Helene in 2024.While the area is slowly recovering, the Lake Lure Olympiad Committee is pleased to be able to bring back both the Race to the Rock 5K as well as the Slam the Dam 10K, as part of their "Race for Recovery" weekend. Unfortunately, the Lake Lure Triathlon will have to wait another year as the lake is still not up to proper standards for safe swimming. If you're a veteran of the Race to the Rock 5K - welcome back! The Life Worth Living 5K Run and Walk at Abbott Farms is an event to raise awareness to prevent suicide.     The 5K course is open to all, whether looking for a competitive race or just a fun time.   Certainly unique, the road and trial course will run through various areas on the farm.  The 5K course will include the roads through the housing development behind Abbott Farms.  The course also includes a very special memorial orchard remembering over 80 victims with local ties who lost their battle to suicide.  Not your average race!   Runners will be timed utilizing chips.    At Abbott Farms, there will be ice cream, bakery goods, berry picking and a variety of other family fun activities.  And don't forget to visit the baby animals in the barnyard.
