Ferguson Cares and Peninsula Track Club present the Fast Before the Feast 5K. This popular event is back and held on Thanksgiving Day. The out and back course is run on the scenic roads of Mariners' Museum Park. Race day participation will be capped at 800. There is no limit for the virtual race. Race proceeds will benefit the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank and THRIVE Peninsula. Your participation and optional donations will help those in need. Ferguson Virtual Option Ferguson associates, family and friends can participate in this event virtually by registering and running or walking wherever they are Thanksgiving week. Whether you are training for an event and want to tackle some intervals on the track or looking for a traffic-free spot where you can know exactly how far you walk or run, you can take advantage of the Wednesday Night Lights community open track from 7-8:30 PM every Wednesday starting November 4. =PR= is excited to partner with George Mason to offer this benefit to the NOVA walking and running community. Getting on a track is difficult and we're fortunate we could make it happen! There will be no formal training happening during the open track hours through 2026 although there may be some in 2027. There is no cost, just register once before you attend for safety and communication purposes. We'll share parking information, any cancelations or changes from George Mason, etc., to all registered participants. Your registration also helps us provide the necessary insurance coverage to enable this community event to go forward. During the winter months, these veterans face extreme cold out in the elements and have no where to turn for support and a hot meal. The Feed a Veteran 5K on Saturday, November 7, 2026 is a fun 3.1 mile road race on an enclosure golf car path of Old Hickory Golf Course in Woodbridge, VA. The race is organized with community partners to raise money and provide hot food and winter survival kits for the homeless veterans in DC and provide suicide prevention programs for veterans. What makes this race incredibly unique is that after the race, all participants and volunteers will have the opportunity to assemble sandwiches and soup that will be delivered to these homeless veterans the afternoon after the race! This run is in memory of Bob Gurtler, former mayor of the Plains, chemical engineer(rocket scientist) and life long runner. As a member of many running clubs. He mentored many beginning runner, supported the running community, and advocated for the health and well being of all.  The race starts at 8am at Grace Episcopal Church in the Plains, Va. and proceeds through town and down to Hopewell road. It continues to the halfway point and returns on the same course back to the church where it finish.  All proceeds go to the local food pantry, Peas & Grace.

The Noland Trail 50K & Relay gives runners the opportunity to race the ONLY event run on the beautiful Noland Trail in The Mariners’ Museum Park. The 50K will consist of 6 laps on the trail, and a short section of course before and after each trail lap. Relay teams can be made up of 2-6 team members, and take on the 6 laps together. This is a 5K Run and Dog Walk to raise money for the Mosby Foundation. We are a national non profit organization based in Staunton , Virginia. Our mission is to help pets stay with their families by helping pay for emergent medical expenses. We also have a food pantry locally and a spay/ neuter program. The race is in memory of Dr. Valerie Weiss , a local veterinarian who dedicated her life to animals, family, and the community. This informal, ungraded "homework" assignment asks you to apply materials from Day One to prepare for Day Two's group work. Day Two includes the business of coaching, sports psychology, nutrition for coaching, recognizing injuries and prevention, environmental factors that affect running performance, and building training programs as a group activity. Online Course Overview: The course will be team taught by RRCA coaching education instructors. Registration is limited to 35 participants to encourage a positive, interactive learning experience. Full attendance and participation is required during the course in order to complete the certification process. While every cohort receives the same curriculum, every cohort has a different dynamic, so the schedule may be modified to suit the specific needs of the weekend program. Instructors will take attendance at various points during both course days. The Zoom course may be recorded for the RRCA's use. A participant's course registration and attendance indicate understanding and agreement that all photos and videos will become the property of the RRCA. As part of the certification process, prospective coaches must provide proof of current CPR and First Aid certifications within 60 days after the course. The RRCA is accepting CPR and First Aid certifications that are completed online, in person, or in a hybrid format. The post-course exam will follow standard online exam protocols, in which participants are required to take the open-book exam without assistance from others. Prospective coaches will have 30 days after the course to complete the online exam. A score of 85/100 or better is required for certification. Waitlist Procedure: If a course has reached capacity, a prospective participant may register for that course's waitlist. The prospective participant will receive an email if space becomes available and will have 24 hours to complete the online registration process before the space is offered to the next person on the waitlist. Cancellation and Refund Policy: Participants may request withdrawal from a course and partial refund in the amount of $300 ($350 - $50 cancellation fee) up to 14 days before the course date.
