He was so kind, caring, outgoing, and fun. Sims’ life ended much too soon on March 27, 2022. After raising over $25,000 for local, caregiving non-profits the past two years, we’re ready to run the Let It Shine 5K again. This event is our attempt to continue spreading light with a world that needs it. This year, our attention has turned to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Piedmont Columbus Regional – Midtown. It is the only NICU in our region – a Level III, 46-bed NICU – helping babies with health complications to have a fighting chance to thrive. Almost everyone has been touched by or known a family that needed the care a NICU, our local NICU, provides. It is our hope to grow the breadth of care they offer. In our quest to support the NICU, we are specifically supporting the NICU Fund and the NICU Bereavement Fund of the Piedmont Foundation. The NICU fund, itself, provides for the needs of the babies, their families, and the staff while they are in the hospital. The NICU Bereavement Fund assists with end of life care for families who experience such a difficult end to their NICU journey. We will walk and run in solidarity with all the market women and peasant farmers in Limonade who, like Polidor, are struggling to become literate. At Carnival time, participants in our literacy program undertake a cross country walk. They celebrate literacy, recruit more learners, and dance and sing through rural communities. Ours will be a companion event to help raise funds for basic class supplies and teacher stipends. ALFA, an extensive adult literacy program, is a project of Friends of Haiti at St. Bartholomew Parish, in partnership with the parishes of St. Anne & St. Isidore in Limonade. The combined time for the swim, bike and run is 60 minutes, plus two transitions. The first transition between the swim and bike is ten minutes and the second transition between the bike to run is five minutes. Each heat will have a maximum of 6 participants. Three lanes of the pool will be used, with two swimmers in each lane.  After completing the swim segment participants will have a 10 minute transition time to change and move to the cycle room for the bike segment. The run segment is upstairs using the treadmills. Each participant will have 10 minutes for the swim, 30 minutes on the bike, and 20 minutes for the run, with the allotted transitions between activities. Fun and pressure-free, this event is great for both experienced triathletes and those competing in their first race. Participants must be at least 18

Hope for Her is a 5K walk held inside NexusPark. This event is putting a spotlight on women's substance abuse recovery. My goal with the race is to reduce social stigma and spread awareness of addiction in general, but especially in women and mothers. One of the toughest half marathons you'll ever run. on the road.  Entire event is on paved county roads.Start at Columbus Youth Camp and drop 250 ft in 1.9 mile down along Wolf Creek to a turnaround and back up the hill. Then after passing the start line you descend 200 ft in 3/4 mile to Grandview Lake.  Follow road around lake with rolling hills and magnificent views. After the lake tour, back up the hill to the finish at Columbus Youth Camp. The 5k option will include going down the 250 ft and 200 ft hills and coming back up. This race will also start and finish at Columbus Youth Camp.

The Heroes of America Marathon and Half Marathon Saturday, March 21, 2026 race starts and finishes at the intersection of West 10th St and Bay Ave in front of Woodruff Park, Columbus, Ga two blocks north of the Columbus Marriott.  The full marathon runs both north and south of Woodruff Park (1000 Bay Ave) utilizing some streets including the 14th street Pedestrian Bridge onto the beautiful Riverwalk, going down and looping inside Fort Moore (AKA Benning).  The course will then exit Fort Moore (AKA Benning) at mile 17 and returns passing the Iron Works Convention Center exiting to Bay Ave to W. 9th under the train trestle and back the start/finish line.  The course is reasonably flat with some smaller inclines.  The Heroes of America 5k also starts at W 10th and Bay Ave immediately after the Half Marathon start.
