The Turkey Trot 5K is a family-favorite tradition that takes place on Thanksgiving morning before all of the festivities begin for the day. Be sure to bring your friends and family so that you can wobble before you gobble!  The 5K begins at the LYCC of Gardner-Webb University and the race route goes throughout the beautiful town of Boiling Springs. Running a race that matters this holiday season is what the Turkey Trot is all about; all proceeds from the race go to the YMCA's We Build People Scholarship Fund so that we can provide financial assistance to those in need so that they can have access to the YMCA. US Road Running Races US Road Running races are built for runners and walkers who like friendly, low-pressure race days with just enough competition to keep things exciting. The Duck Turkey Trot 5K is an annual charitable run/walk to be held on Thursday November 26, 2026. This event is produced by the Outer Banks Track Club, a local 501 C-3 nonprofit which helps youth runners in Dare County. The race is open to runners and walkers of all abilities and continues the tradition established by the Advice 5K Turkey Trot. Many vacationers and locals remember this race fondly before its retirement in 2021. This event is for vacationers, homeowners, and locals to celebrate the Thanksgiving Day holiday together. Join us for the 14th Annual Turkey Trot 5K! Kick off your Thanksgiving with a fun-filled dash through Hendersonville at the 14th annual Turkey Trot to benefit Hope Coalition! Whether you are a seasoned runner, casual stroller, or just in it for the costumes, this event is open to all-ages! The unsanctioned race kicks off at 8:30 a.m. in front of City Hall. This brand new route will start on 6th avenue in front of City Hall continuing down Main Street to the Ecusta Trail. We are now entering our 19th year of the Turkey Strut 5K! There is both an in-person and a virtual option, so you participate in whichever way works for you. Virtual participants will have Thanksgiving Day through the following Sunday to complete their 5K or 1 mile and submit their results (results submission is optional). You can either pick up your shirt and medal at packet pick up on Wednesday or you can add-on shipping during registration and we'll mail it to you. Both events, the 5K and the 1 mile, are open to runners and walkers alike. The 5K is a chip-timed event; the 1 mile is not timed but there is a clock running at the finish line for you to check your time as you cross. This event benefits the We Care House of Winston-Salem. The mission of the We Care House is to meet the physical needs of the people in order to position them so their spiritual needs can be met without distraction. The We Care House is an outreach of St. Peter’s that provides food to the local community. Participants are asked to bring at least 3 canned food items to donate to the We Care House food bank. The need is currently overwhelming and the food drive has a huge impact. All items are needed but breakfast items tend to run out the quickest (grits, pancake mix, syrup, oatmeal). In addition to canned goods, other items that are helpful are dry pinto beans, rice, potato flakes, spaghetti, etc. The event takes place at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds which has PLENTY of parking and room for everyone. The course is a USATF Certified 5K course and a 1 mile fun run/walk. Finally, you don’t have to sit around the house all day waiting for the turkey to finish baking. Place that turkey in the oven and come join the fun at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds! The race will begin at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds off Deacon Blvd just across the street from BB&T Field/Stadium. With the incredible year to year growth of this event we have designed this course to accommodate the participants and families. The course runs near BB&T Field/Stadium, Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, and the Deacon Baseball field stadium. Given that the course is USATF Certified, final run times will go toward state and national records. Bring your family and out-of-town guests for a great start to the Thanksgiving morning. Strollers and dogs (leashed and well-behaved around crowds/other dogs) are welcome to join the fun! No scooters, bikes, or wheeled recreational vehicles are allowed on course. The awards are very unique for this event. Turkeys will be given to the Top 3 Overall Male & Female and Top 3 Overall Masters Male & Female. All participants in the 5K will receive Long Sleeve T-shirts, one-mile fun run participants have the option to purchase a shirt during registration. A fun pancake breakfast immediately follows the race along with the awards ceremony. The proceeds from this race support the Hatteras Island Youth Education Fund (HIYEF). During the 2025-26 school year, HIYEF provided more than $37,000 in grant funded projects to our two Cape Hatteras Schools. The Freedom Ride Rescue Turkey Day 5K is the annual Thanksgiving Day race held in Garner’s White Deer and Lake Benson Parks. Family and friends, both human and canine, gather to enjoy a brisk holiday morning run or walk through the parks to help raise money in support of Freedom Ride Rescue's mission to help abandoned, neglected and abused animals in North Carolina. Race options include 5K and a 1M Fun Run. Both the 5K and 1M courses are relatively flat paved trails with some gravel/dirt paths for the 5K route. The seasonal beauty of these two parks is spectacular. Thanksgiving themed costumes, decorated wagons, strollers and baby joggers are encouraged. Well socialized dogs are welcome on a 6’ or shorter leash - retractable leashes are not permitted. Virtual 'racers' are welcome to support us from a far and will receive a race shirt while supplies last! STORM THE SPRING BEFORE YOU GOBBLE!! Established in 2022, Willow Spring High School is BACK with its Annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 5k Run! The USATF-certified 5K course will start and end on the track and include a loop that will take you around campus, down the Park-Depot Greenway Trail, and into the South Lakes neighborhood before your return. The Kids Fun Run (9 and under), and Diaper Dash (4 and under) will all occur on the school track. We will again offer the competitive 5K for those faster runners who can finish within 30 minutes and want to run with less congestion on the course. In the competitive 5K there will be overall awards for the top 3 and age group awards for the top two. Awards will be given following the competitive 5K. For an added bonus, the course record holder always gets a free entry! Our current record holders are Dylan Buffington in 16:25.8 and Maggie Verwiel in 19:36.30. The Fun Family 5K includes walkers, runners, and strollers (no pets). In the Family Fun 5K, we will have a costume contest that will be judged during the race. There will be goodies for participants after they complete the run/walk!! We'll have our traditional pumpkin cranberry chocolate chip pecan cookies made by Runner "Baker" Dude Jr, Lachlan. The course is an out-n-back mostly along the Latham Park and Lake Daniel Greenways. This is a fun run/walk. Not quite up to a 10K (6.2 miles). No Worries! The route is an out-n-back, so you can run/walk as far as you'd like then turnaround. There is no official timing and there is no police support on the route. Participants are to observe all traffic signals and signs.

Please join us for the 5th annual Run the Fort Race! Participants may run or walk, with Run the East providing timing support for those interested in a timed competition. Run the Fort is an annual race at Fort Macon State Park in Atlantic Beach that supports the Boys and Girls Club of the Coastal Plain. The BGCCP is currently in a capital campaign for a new club building in Beaufort, and they need our help now more than ever. The Boys and Girls Club provides a safe place for kids to go after school and during the summer, offering them tutoring, hot meals, and a sense of community. Course Description: The Fort Macon trail is a multi-terrain trail that overlooks the ocean and takes you through the one-of-a-kind environment of the Crystal Coast. The terrain includes sand, boardwalk and dirt with dunes and hills through maritime forests. Although this trail is somewhat challenging to run due to the changing terrain and hills, it makes it all the more rewarding when you cross the finish line.

US Road Running Races US Road Running races are built for runners and walkers who like friendly, low-pressure race days with just enough competition to keep things exciting. Our events are local, welcoming, and easy to jump into, whether you are chasing a PR, collecting another themed medal, working toward series points, or just getting outside with good people. Most races are small enough to feel personal but organized enough to feel official. You can expect a clear course, helpful race staff, finisher medals, results, and a relaxed community feel. Bring your fast shoes, your steady walking pace, your favorite running buddy, or your best “I signed up for this on purpose” smile. We will be glad to see you at the start line. A quick race-day note: because many US Road Running events are small local races, we normally have one or two staff members at each race.
