Kentucky Derby Festival Volunteers

The Norton Sports Health Kentucky Derby Festival Training Program is a FREE 15-week program designed for runners and walkers of all experience levels.  The program includes a complete training schedule, in-person group runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays, cross-training opportunities, nutrition tips, and more!  The first 1,000 to register for the Norton Sports Health Training Program will receive a FREE long sleeve Tech Shirt. Once tech shirts sell out, registrants will still be able to register to participate in the training program and receive the training manual, however shirts are only promised to the first 1,000 registered. This year's Norton Sports Health Training Program Kick-off will take place Thursday, January 08, 2026, from 5:30pm - 8pm at the Kentucky Derby Museum. The Kentucky Derby Festival and PNC are once again offering a FREE training program for cyclists of all experience levels. The Training Program features six rides that offer participants training tips, including hand signals, rules of the road and nutrition information. All training rides will take place at noon on Sundays from February 22 through March 29, 2026, with rides increasing by five miles every few weeks. Rides will begin at the Waterfront Park Yellow Parking Lot on River Road. In addition to a bicycle, all riders must bring a helmet.   The first 250 participants to register for the Training Program will receive a free training shirt.

Join us for a Kids’ Splash & Dash Series this spring at the Louisville Rec Center! Get ready for a fun, energetic winter racing experience! Each event features an indoor swim in the Louisville Rec Center pool, followed by a run on the outdoor trail. In the case of bad weather, the run will move indoors to the running track. Start Time is 8 AM Sunday April 19th at Hogan's Fountain in Cherokee Park. The Goatman Race is the first in a series of trail runs through Louisville's beautiful parks. This is a family and beginner friendly five mile run through the trails of Cherokee Park.  We'll start at Hogan's Fountain and make our way around the park.  When you think of Kentucky Cryptids, particularly in the Louisville area, what is one of the most well known....GOATMAN! The Goatman is a cryptid who is said to be half-man, half-goat. Although his origins are unknown, the most popular origin story is that he had once been a scientist who worked at Beltsville Agriculture Research Center in Maryland, who experimented on goats. Unfortunately, during one of these experiments, he was mutated into a goat/human hybrid, and went insane. The Kentucky Goatman has a similar origin story who is said to have been a goat farmer who sold his soul to Satan in exchange for immortality or dark magic. As many stories

The Humana Kentucky Derby Festival miniMarathon & Marathon is a long-standing tradition held every spring in Kentucky. It has become the largest annual day of road racing in the state. As 2026 marks the 53rd annual miniMarathon and 25th annual Marathon, the Festival looks forward to another historic event. Participants will start at Louisville Slugger Field in downtown Louisville and run through numerous neighborhoods, experiencing all aspects of our wonderful city, including a run through the infield of historic Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby. Then cross the finish line where they will be greeted by family and friends for our post-race party! Enjoy an early morning adventure where you watch as the Zoo wakes up! Join us on May 9th at 8:00 am for one amazing Louisville Zoo experience. Packet pick-up will take place on Friday, May 8th from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm in the bus lot at the Louisville Zoo (1100 Trevilian Way, 40213). If you are unable to pick up your packet or have a friend/family member pick it up for you on Friday, we will have a limited packet pick-up on race morning from 6:45 am until 7:45 am. Please plan to arrive early enough to get your bib and get to the start line on time.

Ready to flex your muscles at the wildest workout spot in town?  The Louisville Zoo and Flex Appeal invite you to join us for one of our exciting fitness classes at the Zoo.  All fitness levels are welcome to take part in this unique event. Each workout will be approximately one hour in length and will take place in different areas of the Zoo. Sign up now to experience one of our wild classes! Beautiful Cherokee Park in Louisville will once again host the "Candace's Cause 5K". Enjoy the park's many landmarks and points of interest, all the while walking and/or running to support a worthwhile organization dedicated to finding a cure for DIPG - a rare form of pediatric brain tumor that has affected so many of our kids in this region.  This year's race is being ran on DIPG Awareness Day throughout the Commonwealth. We are excited to announce the FIFTH annual Race4Justice on June 6th. This event was designed by a women-led student group. Inspired by Breonna Taylor, the movement that followed her tragic loss, and the many other injustices we’ve seen and experienced, this race is about uniting our city to move forward.  Proceeds from the event will be donated to nonprofits doing justice work in the city and world. This year's events are listed below. 26 Lap Walk/Jog/Run/Roll Relay (9:30)Each of the 26 laps is dedicated to one year of Breonna Taylor's life. We want everyone in our community to get a team together to show up for justice. This event is super accessible. You can run, jog, walk, roll.... And your team can divide up the laps however you want. Go at any pace you want and take as many breaks as you need!! This event is about showing your support for justice and getting as many people to raise money for our organizations. Registration for this event is priced at an individual basis.

First we run, then we eat pizza! Join us on Tuesday, June 9th for this fun 5k. The race starts at 6:30 p.m. near the Iroquois Amphitheater. We recommend getting there early to allow plenty of time for parking and check-in. This family friendly community event brought to you by the Iroquois Hill Runners provides the perfect opportunity to come out and attempt your first 5K or put your yourself to the test and break a PR. The rolling course around the base of Iroquois Park is full of ample beauty to enjoy while avoiding the hustle and bustle of traffic.   DID SOMEBODY SAY PIZZA? YES! Iroquois Hill Runners is partnering with Craft House Pizza to provide pizza to all of those who join us. Our goal for the inaugural Awareness for Dementia 3K Run/Walk is to bring families, caregivers, partners, and supporters together to raise awareness, honor lived experiences, and build a compassionate network of care. Finish 3 of the 4 races (In-person or Virtual) and receive a fun cryptid medal and series survivor shirt!   *Date Shifted to Saturday June 13th due to event conflict* The Mothman Race is the second in a series of trail runs through Louisville's beautiful parks. This is a family and beginner friendly six mile run through the trails of Waverly Park.  We'll start at the playground and make our way winding through Waverly Park.  The Mothman is a cryptid who follows is said to be a red-eyed humanoid winged creature seen by some as a harbinger of doom. Mothman sighting accounts come from across West Virginia and Kentucky, to the greater Appalachian region. From the 1960's to present day sightings continue to be reported.  Awards Each race will have awards for Overall Male / Female / Non-Binary Winners. You will want to complete 3 of the 4 races either In-person or Virtually to earn your Cryptid Series Survivor Medal and Shirt!  Stay Hydrated & Stay Safe This event is CUPLESS.

Run or walk with pride and join us for the fifth annual Louisville Pride 5K on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at 9:00 am. Starting and finishing in Iroquois Park at the Iroquois Amphitheater, the Louisville Pride 5K is a family-friendly event for people of all ages, athletic abilities, and skill levels. Run, walk, or push your way through a closed course inside the beautiful park with hundreds of your closest friends to kick off Pride Week in Louisville. Packet pick-up for the Louisville Pride 5K will take place on Saturday, June 13 from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm at the Louisville Pride Foundation's LGBTQ Community Center (1244 S 3rd St, Louisville, KY 40203). If you are unable to pick up your packet then, no worries! We'll have them on site on race morning beginning at 7:30 am. The first 600 people who sign up for the Louisville Pride 5K will receive a Pride 5K cooling towel and everyone will receive a finisher's medal.
