The Stevens Raiders Track & Field team will be hosting a Track and Field clinic for elementary kids in the Black Hills area. Von Hippel-Lindau disease (VHL) is a rare genetic disorder that significantly increases the chance that you’ll have certain kinds of cancerous (malignant) tumors and noncancerous (benign) tumors and cysts. The cause of VHL is a mutation to the VHL gene. Everyone has a VHL gene and its job is to put the brakes on tumor growth in the human body. If you have VHL, your VHL gene lacks that component and at times will excel tumor growth throughout the body.  Historically, the average life expectancy for an individual with VHL was around 40 to 52 years, but advancements in early diagnosis and treatment in the last 20 years have increased it to 67 years for males and 60 years for females.  We want to be part of raising that number. We are grateful for what God-through technology & science, has done; but our race doesn't stop there! The Beer Mile is an event consisting of drinking a beer, running a 1/4 mile, and repeating that process 3 more times for a total of 4 beers and 1 mile of running.  You must be 21 to participate.  You must bring ID to the event.   There will be three options to participate:  Single - 1 person drinks all the beer and runs all the laps  Double -  Find yourself a drinking buddy (and running buddy) 2 people split the running and beer drinking.  Each person must drink 2 beers and run 2 laps (1/2 mile total per person)  Quad -  This could be a good team-building exercise for your company, or softball team, or just you and three friends.  4 person team split the running and beer drinking. Each person must drink 1 beer and run 1/4 mile  Suggested Training Plan :  Get off the sofa, grab a beer, take the long way back to the sofa.  Increase the distance to the fridge by one room every three days.  Trying walking through the dining room, laundry room, and office.  As you advance try going outside,

Join the fun at the 9th Annual Run with the Govs Saturday, June 13, 2026 on a 3.5-mile trail that winds through the heart of South Dakota's capital city. The route features bronze statues of all former governors. Race through to see the highlights or stroll along the route to enjoy the artistry and stories of the state's legendary leaders. This year's featured leader is the 9th Governor of South Dakota, Peter Norbeck, who served as Governor from 1917-1921. Governor Norbeck was an avid sportsman. He held the very first Pheasant Hunting Season in our state! Run with the Govs walking participants are encouraged to snap a selfie with Governor Norbeck's statue, which stands at the corner of Pierre Street and Dakota Avenue.   The race starts and finishes behind the beautiful State Capitol building in Hilger's Gulch. BLACK HILLS VETERAN’S HONOR MARCH AND MARATHON  The Black Hills Veteran’s Honor March was conceived in 2002 as a way to honor the sacrifices of the nation’s servicemen and women. The 26.2-mile march takes place in the picturesque Black Hills National Forest on the Mickelson Trail. The March is held on a weekend at the end of September. The March, which is conducted under the auspices of the South Dakota National Guard Enlisted Association (SDNGEA), grew out of an idea that originated from some South Dakota Army National Guard soldiers who had participated in the Bataan Memorial Death March. It was during the long ride home from White Sands, New Mexico that the idea of a commemorative march could be held to honor all Veterans and that the Black Hills would be a perfect place to hold such an event. Since the Bataan Memorial Death March takes place in late March or April, the consensus was that this new event should be held later in the year. On September 21, 2002, seven members of the Ar

“ALL abilities, ALL athletes, ALL achieving greatness.” “Your Race, Your Pace” is an event for the community to come together, and for each individual to succeed.  It’s for ALL abilities, ALL athletes, to ALL achieve their goals. This is a unique race with multiple route options empowering and celebrating each participant from the avid to adaptive runner and everyone in between. Whether athletes walk, run, jog, or wheel to the finish line, they will be given a medal; they are champions for finishing their race at their pace. The route consists of a 1.5 mile loop and 3 mile loop (approximate distances).  Participants can choose to complete one or both loops as many times as they wish and what pace they choose to reach their goals. The Sioux Falls Marathon, powered by Sanford Health and the Sioux Falls Sports Authority, features races for all levels of runners. Distances include the full marathon, half marathon, & 5K. The full & half races feature downtown Sioux Falls, iconic Falls Park (for full and half) and many of the city's finest parks as well as the bike trail system. A portion of the net proceeds from the Sioux Falls Marathon is donated to the Sanford Children's Miracle Network. The 2024 races raised more than $20,000 for children in our community.

Be part of the history of Jack 15. For 59 years, runners have been making an annual trek from White, S.D., to Brookings, S.D., making it the oldest road race in the Midwest. The 60th running of the 15.2-mile course from White to the Campanile in Brookings is October 3rd. We will again offer medals to runners who complete the full distance. So start training for Prairie Striders’ version of an ultra-half marathon or grab some friends and form a relay team.The Jack 15 offers the following individual and team competitions: Individual competitors may run the entire 15.2 miles.5-member relay team running 3 miles each3-member relay team running 5 miles each.2-member relay team running 7.5 miles each.Relay teams may consist of all men, all women, or be co-ed.

The race is exactly what it says a DASH!   We will be running on the bike trail which is a short warm up walk to the bike trail from Cherapa Place with our headquarters being at Queen City Bakery.   Come dressed for fun! A sweet prize goes to the winner of the best costume! There will be penguins or flags along the course for markings and there will be signs at the turn around for each distance.
