About HPD's Shop with a Cop program or the past several years, the Hazard Police Department's Shop with a Cop program has operated on an annual budget of approximately $3,000, allowing officers to provide Christmas gifts for about 20 local children each year. The goal this year is to expand the program and serve even more children in the Hazard Independent School District. Beyond providing gifts, Shop with a Cop helps build positive relationships between local law enforcement and the children they serve by creating positive, lasting memories. The Black Cat Chase 3K, sponsored by Frankfort Regional Medical Center, is one of the region's most popular and entertaining races. This traditional race is filled with fun and excitement, from both the race participants and spectators! With the Halloween themed festivities, such as costumes, Thriller Parade dancers, performances from Franklin County High School marching band, Halloween music and more; this is a great event for the entire family. Whether you choose to participate by yourself, with a friend or spouse, school or work group, or with the whole family, the Black Cat Chase 3K will be sure to deliver high quality entertainment for everyone involved. Also, the start/finish of the race will once again be held in Downtown Frankfort in front of the Old Capitol lawn! Due to ongoing construction of roads and bridges, the City of Frankfort has required us to alter our route to accommodate traffic and emergency vehicles; therefore, we are using a condensed 3K route that avoids crossing over Capitol Avenue and circling around the state capitol. Everything else will remain the same, and we'll still offer a fantastic night that's Halloween themed and community oriented! Proceeds from the Black Cat Chase benefit the YMCA's Annual Giving Campaign, which generates funds to help support our local children and families in financial need in order to participate in YMCA programs and memberships. Join us for the 6th running of Mammoth Cave 50K/25K trail race on Saturday, October 24, 2026, in beautiful Mammoth Cave National Park! Named after the historic railroad that once roared through Mammoth Cave National Park from 1886 through 1931, the Bike & Hike Trail provides a scenic, wooded experience within the Park on a crushed gravel surface. The out-and-back trail offers some challenging ascents/descents along its scenic route, and is perfect for the first-time trail runner or racers looking to set a lightening fast PR! Mammoth cave is the world's largest known cave system with over 420 miles created 10 millon years ago. It is also a UNESCO world heritage site. While you are here for the run make sure to get tickets to visit the cave prior to your arrival. There are also many other caves around the area. This destinatioin is perfect for a family vacation. This race was started by Kevin Mays, whom many of you know, and this year he has given me the pleasure of taking over as the race director. He has done a wonderful job of involving the community in the race and I hope to carry on all he has started. The logo has been a white squirrel which is rare in the wild but abuntant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. So maybe you will see one! Seeing one represents purity, transformation, and good fortune. The race will start at 7:00 AM (Central), for both distances, from the Bell's Tavern Pavilion in Park City, KY, and will end by 3 pm. A hard cutoff of 8 hours will be imposed for both distances. Post-Cutoff Finishers: We understand that everyone brings their own pace to the race, and we deeply appreciate the effort and determination it takes to cross the finish line, no matter the time. However, please note that after the 3 pm cutoff, race-day activities will wind down, and many participants, volunteers, and spectators may have already departed. If you find yourself finishing after the cutoff, we want to assure you that your achievement is no less valued. Your perseverance is something to be proud of, even if the crowds may not be there to cheer you in. We hope you'll take pride in your personal journey and accomplishment on race day, regardless of the time. Due to National Park restrictions, registration will be capped. At present, we are opening registration to 150 runners, with the hopes of increasing pending permit approval. Understand this is a trail race. We are limited based on where the trail goes. So unlike a road race, the distance is never exact. This is common knowledge to most everyone who has run trail races in the past but it never fails and there is always one who is upset that their GPS watch showed 16.5 miles when the race said it was a 25K. Everyone is racing the same course, therefore it's an even playing field. This will be a "cupless" race. Runners will need to provide their own collapsible cups, bottles or hydration packs for refill at the aid stations. The aid staions will have water, sports drink, and yummy snacks. The Silver Creek Bike Park is amidst the rolling hill country side. It is a superb place to run and the course offers everyone a great time on the trail. Show Your Panther Spirit—Halloween Style! The Panther Cheer Halloween Spirit Run takes place Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Elizabethtown High School Panther Stadium. The event features a timed 5K Run/Walk and a free Kids’ 2.5K Fun Run/Walk. Both races begin at 8:30 a.m. The course features a 2.5K loop around the EHS campus. Kids will complete one lap, while 5K participants will complete two. Whether you are a hardcore runner, friends enjoying a morning walk, or simply trying to outrun the ghosts and goblins, everyone is invited to join the fun. Costumes are strongly encouraged! Come dressed as your favorite superhero, movie character, monster, Panther fan, or anything else your imagination can create. Just make sure your costume allows you to safely run, walk, and see the course. 5K Registration Registration for the timed 5K is $35 through October 23 and $40 on race day. Along the route, you’ll pass by his home, his farms, and the familiar roads that were such a big part of his life. Zombies are on the prowl and you need to collect the supplies you need to survive the apocalypse! Join us for the start of a fun-filled afternoon at the Lone Oak Green Park by running or walking the survival trail and avoiding the zombie hoard. At each 1K you'll collect the supply sticker indicating you successfully arrived at each "supply depot". The course itself is not overly challenging but does have a fairly easy gradual downhill & uphill from the park lakes. The challenge is to get to the supply stations. (This is a no-contact race in which the Zombies on the course will not touch anyone but might impact you from running straight down the middle of the course path).

Legends Spooky Trail Race at Rudy Mines - Sunday October 25th 2026 at 3pm 6K run/walk on the Ben Hawes Trail System just outside of Owensboro, KY This year's Spooky Trail Race is a two-looped course. You will start to the left of the parking lot at the open field of the red trail-head. Then head into the woods along the Green Trail, looping past rolling hills and switchbacks. Nightmare on Main 5K is a Halloween themed community race hosted by Morehead State University ROTC at Battson Oates Common in Morehead, Kentucky. Runners, walkers, families, students, and community members are all welcome to come out for a fun night of costumes, competition, and Halloween activities. Check in and bib pickup begin at 5:00 PM, with the race starting at 7:30 PM on Friday, October 30th. Costumes are encouraged, and awards will be given to top performers. Boston Marathon qualifying USATF Certified Course The course starts (and finishes) at the Bowling Green Ballpark and runs a 13.1 mile loop through historic downtown Bowling Green, Kentucky and the beautiful campus of Western Kentucky University. Still standing is the Butler-Turpin House, which was built in 1859 for Mary Eleanor Butler, niece of General Butler, and her husband Philip Turpin. Today, the Butler-Turpin House is a museum open for guided tours, featuring pieces from the family’s history.
