This special event serves as the season finale for our Lions on the Run camp, where 3rd–5th grade students have been training together in faith, fitness, and fun. The Scott Sterrett Memorial Race Weekend returns on Saturday, November 7th, 2026. We are continuing the traditions you love: 5K, 10K, scenic Half Marathon, Hero Bibs, and incredible race swag! Scott Sterrett was a reserve officer for the City of Cedar Falls beginning in May of 2005. Scott was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church.  He was an avid runner participating in 23 marathons total, the Boston Marathon twice, and the Chicago and Dallas Marathons multiple times.  In addition to his passion for running, Scott had a passion for being a reserve officer with the Cedar Falls Police Department and serving his community. In 2018, Scott passed away after a fight with pancreatic cancer. This event is dedicated to Scott. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be put into a scholarship for local seniors who plan to pursue a career as a first responder. Our goal for this event is to continue to build a strong relationship between the community and those that serve us every day.

Miles in the Maize is a unique running experience for people of all ages and abilities! With a 5k and Maize Mile, this event takes competitors through a unique off-road course weaving around a corn maze, pumpkin patch, and other beautiful fall Iowa scenery!  The Maize Mile will kick off the festivities at 9:30am, and the 5K will follow at 10:00am! Our annual Half Marathon & 10k races are a fundraiser for the Thrive church Mission Team. Between our four races we anticipate 650 signups. Three start lines, one finish line, all three races start at 8:30am. We offer chip timing, super soft ring spun shirts, custom die cast medals to all, trophies to top finishers, plus age division awards. The half marathon and 10k are a point-to-point races and we provide the bus transportation. We added a Greubel Memorial 5k in 2017 to fundraise for three kids in our church and community who tragically lost their parents. Funds from the 5k will go towards college savings plans. Break out the pink tutus to honor breast cancer survivors at the Pink Strides 5K! The American Cancer Society at the University of Iowa student organization is hosting a 5K run and walk event this fall to kickstart the school year and fundraise for cancer research and patient services. Proceeds benefit cancer research grants (including $2 million in research grants from ACS at the UIHC), lodging services for cancer patients like the Russel and Ann Gerdin Hope Lodge in Iowa City, patient programs across the country, and more through the American Cancer Society. US Road Running Races US Road Running races are built for runners and walkers who like friendly, low-pressure race days with just enough competition to keep things exciting. Our events are local, welcoming, and easy to jump into, whether you are chasing a PR, collecting another themed medal, working toward series points, or just getting outside with good people. Join American Legion Post 711 for the American Legion Veterans 5K on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. in Blue Grass, Iowa. This year’s race keeps the same relatively flat course: start and finish at the Post, out old Highway 61 and back, with a water stop at the 5K turnaround near Zachary Avenue. Join the Logan Community Foundation on Saturday, November 21, 2026, for our inaugural Turkey Trot 5K run/walk & 1-Mile Fun Walk as we celebrate the opening of Phase 1 of Logan’s Safe Routes to School Trail! Before the race, we’ll celebrate this exciting community milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony outside the Logan-Magnolia School Panther Dome. Then it’s time to lace up, hit the trail and celebrate the community spirit that helped make this project possible. A Trail Years in the Making The vision for Logan’s trail system took shape through the 2022 Iowa’s Living Roadways Community Visioning process, where surveys, focus groups, steering committee meetings and public open houses consistently identified safer walking and biking connections, especially a safe route to Logan-Magnolia Schools, as a community priority. The resulting plan proposed a broader trail network shaped by existing walking patterns, community destinations, and public input. From there, the work shifted from vision to implementation. The community began prioritizing projects, pursuing grants, building partnerships and planning improvements in phases, exactly as envisioned in the 2022 plan. Over the next few years, multiple grant applications, significant funding from the Iowa Department of Transportation, and impressive local support through private donations steadily moved the trail from an idea on paper to the project now under construction. Phase 1 is the first major step in that larger vision, and this Turkey Trot is our chance to celebrate how far we’ve come while continuing to dream about Logan’s future. Ashtyn Runyon, who will turn 3 years old in November, was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in June of this year and is undergoing treatment at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s hospital. All proceeds from this race will directly benefit the Runyon family. Every year for the last 12 years, Levi Ritz, a police officer with the Ottumwa Police Department, has hosted his annual "No Shave November" fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting a local kiddo and their family who are in the trenches of childhood cancer. This year, Levi has chosen Ashtyn Runyon and her family. Ashtyn's family include her parents, Thayne and Madyson, and her 1 year old sister, Bristyl. Ashtyn's treatments are expected to continue until 2029, with daily chemo medication at home, weekly chemotherapy at the University, followed by monthly treatments, also at the University. Let's rally around Ashtyn & her family and show them love & support through this difficult time. All money raised will support the Runyon's with medical bills, groceries, gas traveling to and from the hospital, food, household bills, and other places as they see fit. Named as one of the "Top Turkey Trots In The Country" by Runners World Magazine, the Des Moines Turkey Trot is Iowa's largest Thanksgiving Day Tradition. The run is like a highlight reel of Des Moines so get ready to experience downtown Des Moines, or show it off to your visiting family and friends, while burning off some holiday carbs. Athletes will start their Thanksgiving run with the Des Moines Courthouse as their backdrop in the heart of the Court Ave Entertainment District. From there, both 5K and 5-mile runners will make their way across the Des Moines River and through the center of the Historic East Village. A slight uphill will run athletes around the whole of the State Capitol Complex which offers the most famous view of downtown Des Moines.
