First launched in April 2010, the Sisters Network Inc. Stop the Silence National African American Breast Cancer 5K Walk/Run is the first and only national breast cancer walk hosted by a black-led organization for black women. The walk is hosted in April to draw attention to National Minority Health Awareness month. Over the last 15 years, more than 4,000 participants from around the United States travel to Houston, Texas annually to honor and celebrate black women diagnosed with breast cancer. A portion of the funds raised from the Stop the Silence walk benefits Sisters Network Inc. Karen E. Jackson Breast Cancer Assistance Program (BCAP). The national program pays for 3D mammograms for uninsured women and provides financial assistance to breast cancer survivors who are currently in treatment.

The 29th Annual Victory Over Violence Walk/Run takes place Saturday April 18, 2026.  This USATF certified 5K Walk/Run and a 1K Fun Run starts at Trinity Park Duck Pond near downtown Fort Worth and winds through Trinity Park. Our Plano Pacers Hall of Fame Run 3K, 8K and Kids K will be held April 18th at 8AM at Windhaven Meadows Park. The Kids K should start at about 9:00AM after the 8K. Our club will induct new members into the Pacer Hall of Fame during the awards presentation. These honorees have been involved in the continued success of the club that is over 40 years old. 2nd Annual Dr. Abram Estrada Legacy 5k Run/Walk Dr. Abram Estrada, a dedicated educator and beloved family man, earned his Doctorate degree from Grand Canyon University. He was a proud husband to Ellie Estrada, father to two daughters, Adanai Estrada and Abrie Estrada, son to Maria Estrada and a loving brother to his three siblings: Joe, Abel, and Arrian Estrada. Dr. Estrada’s passion for education and his community was evident in his impactful roles as Superintendent at Santa Rosa ISD and Principal at Kennedy Middle School. Join Us for Our First School 5K Run / Walk at North Central, a fun and exciting event created to bring families together while prompting health, fitness and school spirit. This race is open to all our school community, students, former students of all ages regardless of fitness level or running experience. Participants may jog, run or walk the 5K course at their own pace. The goal is not to be the fastest, but to have fun, stay active, and be part of a positive school community experience. This is our first school- organized 5K and we are excited to make it a memorable event and start of a new tradition. Students are encouraged to have friends, support classmates, and celebrate crossing the finish line together. Come out, get moving and be proud to say you were part of our Knights on the Run 5K.

Saturday, April 18, 2025. This incredible natural area (now known as LLELA) was originally wild and beautiful, full of an endless number of native species. But the area around it became urbanized and the city moved in on it. LLELA was tamed, eventually being surrounded by suburbia (the city, and thousands of people and noise). Now, LLELA, University of North Texas, and the City of Lewisville are working to bring back the wild. Reclaiming it, protecting it, and making beautiful experiences possible for generations to come.  As they work daily to restore and replenish the native plant, tree, and animal life, they are bringing the natural environment back full circle. We invite you to come take part in that process, and enjoy these special trails and eco-systems, while showing your support for LLELA’s great work!
