Topeka Road Run

The Independence Day celebration in Topeka, Indiana is a grand tradition.  Each year, the tiny town comes alive with a fireworks display, a parade, basketball and softball tournaments, food vendors, kids games and watermelon eating competition and much more!  But before the fireworks blast off or kids race to pick up candy at the parade, the day begins with the Road Run.  Begun in 1974 the road run is the oldest consecutively run race in the state.  This year's race, the 53rd annual, will take place on Saturday July 4th at the Topeka East Park located at 510 E Lake Street. The road run has two events for kids and adults.  We will kick things off at 8:15 a.m. with a One-Mile Fun Run for kids 13 and under.  It’s a great opportunity for kids to try something new and get active.  Medals will be awarded to the top three boys and girls.  At 8:30, the 5K race, open to all ages, will begin at the park and wind its way through the streets of Topeka.  Prizes will be awarded to the top three

The 5K race starts on A Street behind City Hall, heads North on 3rd Street to the track at Missisinewa High School. After a few laps on the track runners will then go along the perimeter of the school property and through one of the trails in the woods. Runners will exit the woods onto Garthwaite Road taking a left of H Street, taking a right back on to 3rd Street, and then finish back at the City Hall Pavilion. Tristan Calvin 5k Scholarship run

The third annual Tristan Calvin 5k scholarship run will be on the Owen Valley xc course in memory of his many activities with the school.  Tristan, as a Senior at Owen Valley had his life cut short during a traffic accident on July 20th, 2023. Tristan never met a stranger and was giving to a fault.  His parents are starting this scholarship in his name to keep that giving spirit alive.  Please consider a donation in his name and bringing your family and friends out to walk or run with us in his memory. After crossing the finish line, enjoy activities inside the track, support and congratulate fellow racers, and attend the awards ceremony for the top winners of each age division. Hot Summer Singletrack Trail Race

Mountain bike riders, trail runners and wheelchair athletes will take on the technical dirt trails of Franke Park during the heat of the summer in the Hot Summer Singletrack. Mountain bike riders can take on the six hour challenge or settle for a more reasonable three hour ride on a seven-mile loop of the technical dirt trails of Franke Park.  Wheelchair athletes can choose to follow a challenging course of paved path and gravel road for either three or six hours. The Melt Down - Three Consecutive 5Ks

Three 5K's + One Day = The Melt Down!  This challenging event is in it's 11th year.  Three consecutive 5K's at 8:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.  Do one, two or all three races!  You can decide that day!  Races must be done in order (so no fresh runners in race #2 or race #3). If participants are just doing one race it has to be the 8:00 a.m. race.  Races must be finished in 1 hour to allow for the start of the next race.  Course is on a beautiful wide, smooth, paved trail through two parks and crosses a historical bridge!  Indoor restrooms and a fun, free splash pad and playground for the kiddos located right next to the start/finish.   Everyone who finishes the first race races receives a custom MELT DOWN medal.  Fun HOT, summer themed t-shirts!  Awards for top three male/female and top 3 in age groups in the FIRST race only.  Also award for the top male and female best COMBINED times of all three races.
