On a daily basis for well over a decade, he was seen, often before dawn, running through the streets of Lower Merion and along Montgomery Avenue. He attended Cardinal O'Hara High School where he received awards and accolades for his running achievements, and he continued to run in his free time while at LaSalle University. Dr. Hughes also proudly completed the Broad Street run for over 20 years, and he was a co-chair of the Skippack Lions Club 5K run for a decade. Dr. Hughes also served as President of the Central Athletic League and coached youth sports, including softball at Lower Perk Little League, basketball at Perk Valley Youth Basketball Organization, and soccer at Perkiomen Valley Soccer Club. Dr. Hughes shared the motto and belief that “character counts,” a message his students and young athletes surely will carry throughout their lives. Gobbler 5K & 10K at Akron, PA (46)

Akron, PA
US Road Running Races US Road Running races are built for runners and walkers who like friendly, low-pressure race days with just enough competition to keep things exciting. Our events are local, welcoming, and easy to jump into, whether you are chasing a PR, collecting another themed medal, working toward series points, or just getting outside with good people. Most races are small enough to feel personal but organized enough to feel official. You can expect a clear course, helpful race staff, finisher medals, results, and a relaxed community feel. Bring your fast shoes, your steady walking pace, your favorite running buddy, or your best “I signed up for this on purpose” smile. We will be glad to see you at the start line. A quick race-day note: because many US Road Running events are small local races, we normally have one or two staff members at each race. EMS is not stationed on site, and water stations are limited to the finish area at the end of each lap and at the race finish. Please plan for the weather, bring anything you may want between laps, and check in with race staff if you need help. View Race Course, Results, and Race Information on the US Road Running race page.

The Stockville

TBA, PA
The best part of adventuring is the stories. That time you were packrafting down a remote river and spotted a deer chasing a Canadian lynx up the bank… That sunrise over the Catskills, when the red and yellow leaves sparkled with frost… Those trail angels you encountered, when everyone on the team had run out of food, and you were still miles from the TA… That night you and your teammates came together to overcome insurmountable odds and made it to the finish line, with seconds to spare… This race is for the stories. The Race The Stockville is a two-day foot and navigation event, inspired by the mountain marathons of Europe and the UK. Each morning, racers will receive maps of a linear, point-to-point course that will take them through the wilds of north central Pennsylvania. The final checkpoint on Day 1 - and the start location for Day 2 - will be at midcamp, a community campout where we'll come together over roasted marshmallows to share in the wonder of our collective adventures. The event is open to solo racers and single-gender and mixed-gender teams of 2-4 people. Racers will be required to carry all food and gear for the duration of the event. Tents and cooking supplies will be transported to midcamp.

Gobbler 5K, 10K, & 13.1M at York, PA (46)

York, PA

Coventry 300 5K

Pottstown, PA
Coventry 300 5k Run & 1.5 Mile Fun Walk Description: Coventry Church will again sponsor the Coventry 300 5k. Inaugurated in 2024 to celebrate Coventry Church’s 300th birthday, this event has been making strides as a unique family friendly, community centered race, with something for everyone. 5k: The third year of this race will reveal a slight derivation in the course to make it more runner friendly and include a team option. The race will start and finish next to the church parking lot on Keen Road. The course is an out and back. The first half is mostly downhill, going through neighborhoods. A brief departure onto a paved footpath will take runners around a pond in Kenilworth before returning to the streets. The second half of the race will return runners to an exciting finish line experience. The team option will allow a group of five runners to register under a team name and compete against other registered teams. The team score will be the cumulative sum of the finishing place for each team member. Fun Walk: Those who want to participate but not run the 5k can register for a 1.5-mile fun walk. The walk will start at approximately 9:30 and follow the race course. Kids-Run: We will continue this fun portion of the morning and allow the children to race along Keen road! Last year’s kid-run was a highlight full of smiles, competition, excitement and joy as children raced toward a finish line surrounded by family members and friends. This is free, and will vary in length due to age (no longer than 200m). Each child will receive a prize. Post-race refreshments, music, fellowship and age group awards will culminate the 5k experience. The Coventry 300 5k is held in conjunction with the Coventry Church Fall Festival. Following the race and award ceremony, there will be food, games, and activities for children and adults. AWARDS: 5K: Separate awards for the male and female winners plus top 3 in each age group: 14 & under: 15-19: 20-29: 30-39: 40-49: 50-59: 60-69: 70+

After a courageous five-and-a-half-year battle with Neuroblastoma, Rilyn passed away surrounded by those who loved her dearly. Before she passed, we committed to honoring her by naming the final half-mile of every race: “Rilyn’s Way” You’ll see a sign at the ½-mile-to-go mark. Pause if you’d like. Take a photo. Draw strength from Rilyn’s spirit as you finish your race. 🕊️ Special Dedication The Harry J. Shipley Memorial Run Last Trail Standing is dedicated to Harry J. Shipley, father of race director Chad Shipley, whose birthday is November 17. Harry loved old country roads — always wondering where they led. That same curiosity guided the creation of this race: chasing every trail, connecting every path, and seeing where it all goes. “The Last Trail Standing isn’t about speed — it’s about exploration. And the only way to conquer it is to show up and run.” — Chad Shipley 🌲 One Last Note The full course map will not be released in advance (same course as 2025). This is intentional. We want the experience to unfold as a true adventure. What we can promise: 99% wooded trails Every trail in Settlers Cabin Park An experience you won’t forget Ready to conquer every trail at Settlers? We’ll see you at the start line on November 14.
