Welcome to our annual rendition of the Pirates vs. Cancer Scare-O-Way Cancer 5k! We are an organization at the Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, NC dedicated to improving the lives of pediatric cancer patients at the local Maynard Children's Hospital. We achieve our goals by raising donations from the community and increasing awareness of pediatric cancers in Eastern North Carolina. As a testament to this fact, 100% of all proceeds from fundraising activities are donated directly to the Children's Hospital. One of our largest events of the year is our 5k that will be hosted the morning of Saturday, October 31st at the beautiful Wildwood Park. Our route is a flat, graded track running through pristine woodlands overlooking multiple lakes. Temperatures in late October will be optimal for fast times. The race will start promptly at 10am at the main park shelter (3450 Blue Heron Dr, Greenville, NC 27834) with a time limit of 75 minutes. There will be an official race start/finish line and time clock courtesy of our friends at Fleet Feet Greenville. There will also be water and light snacks at the shelter. The race is not formally timed, but your time will be visible at the finish line. We encourage participants to run in costume to feel the Halloween spirit! We also welcome donations besides the $15 entry fee, 100% of which will support our organization's mission to help children battling cancer here in Eastern NC. Challenge Overview The GRIT 100 Challenge by Gritty Soldier Challenge is a month-long virtual endurance challenge built to test discipline, consistency, and grit. Your mission is simple: Accumulate 100 standard miles during the month of November 2026. This challenge is designed to be accessible to all fitness levels and training styles (which eliminates any excuses 😉). Challengers can complete standard miles through multiple activities to include: • Running • Walking • Rucking • Hiking • Cycling • Swimming • Rowing • Elliptical All activity miles will be converted into “standard miles” using the official GRIT 100 conversions (SEE CONVERSION CHART). The TOTALLY FREE Moving Mountains 5K for Adoption is Sunday, November 1, at 11:30am at Aberdeen Elementary School. 100 percent of race profits go to the Faithful Bible Church Adoption and Orphan Care Fund. The Faithful Bible Church Adoption and Orphan Care Fund supplies grants and scholarships for adopting families and the precious children they bring home. Since 2017, Faithful Bible Church has given away $32,098 in adoption and foster care grants, helping bring five children home and serving four others through medical and foster care assistance. Our goal is to raise $25,000 this year. Your support of this race literally changes and transforms lives. Registration for the Moving Mountains 5K is totally FREE! (You will register all runners below.) This is a family-friendly course, and runners and walkers of all ages, as well as strollers and mobility devices, are welcome! The Tranthams Are Pursuing Adoption! The Lord has been a part of the Trantham family's story from the very beginning. Throughout Audra's pregnancy with Huitt and his birth, God's faithfulness has been woven into every chapter. While giving birth to Huitt, Audra experienced serious and unexpected complications. In an effort to save her life, doctors had to perform an emergency hysterectomy. It was a shocking outcome the family never imagined facing. Although adoption was not the story they originally expected to write, the Tranthams are beginning to see it as a beautiful part of the story God is continuing to write for their family. The Mayodan Lions Club will host “Strides for Diabetes Awareness, 5K and 1 mile fun run” to raise funds and awareness in our local community. The concept is simple, run or walk a 5K course and 100% of the proceeds from our fundraising will aid diabetes camp, low boxes, and donations to Rockingham County School nurses to assist diabetic students. This memorial race is held in memory of Joe Mike Baker. Joe Mike lived and worked in the Sandy Bottom Community. He had many hobbies such as bowling, hunting, fishing and sports; however, he fell in love with running. At the time of his accidental death in September 2014, he was training for his first half marathon. As a tribute and to honor his memory, family and friends organized the JMB Memorial 5K and Fun Run to raise money for scholarships for high school seniors who plan to use their education to give back to their community just as Joe Mike did. Through the generous donations of the sponsors and commitment of the runners and volunteers, since 2016, the JMB Memorial 5K and Fun Run has awarded more than $34,000.00 in scholarships to 37 South Lenoir High School students. This year’s JMB Memorial 5K and Fun Run will be held at South Lenoir High School on Saturday, November 7th at 8:00am. About House of Hope Piedmont House of Hope Piedmont is a Christian nonprofit ministry serving teenage girls ages 13–17 and their families throughout the Piedmont Triad. Through our residential program and on‑site school, Piedmont Hope Academy, we focus on the whole teenager, spiritually, emotionally, academically, and physically. Every girl in our care experiences the transforming power of love, receives individualized counseling, participates in therapeutic activities, and works through a structured six‑phase healing program. PULL AN ALL-NIGHTER FOR MENTAL HEALTH! Sign up as an individual or with friends to run or walk all night with us as we raise awareness and funds for mental health in our local community. Funds raised will support mental health services for: UNC student athletes (offered through UNC Athletics Mental Health and Performance Psychology program - "MHPP"), Athletes (offered through The Mind Over Muscle Foundation - founded by former UNC running back Elijah Green), UNC students (offered through UNC Counseling and Psychological Services - "CAPS"), and The unhoused in Orange County (offered through the Street Outreach, Harm Reduction & Deflection team - "SOHRAD") We'll be following a roughly one-mile loop route along sidewalks all night long. The route starts in the University Baptist Church parking lot on W. Franklin, goes to the corner at S. Columbia, takes S. Columbia down to W. Cameron, W. Cameron to Kenan, and Kenan back up to W. Franklin. It's four right turns crossing no major streets--the simplest route you'll find! The church parking lot will serve as base camp for all participants. There they can take breaks between laps, rest, re-fuel, receive aid, or enjoy some of the entertainment and activities that will take place throughout the night. This is a "fun run"! Participants set their own goals for how much distance they want to cover throughout the night. The main purpose is to keep going and do as much as you can to raise awareness and funds for mental health. Do you have to stay all night? No! Participants are free to leave at any point, but we do ask that they return on Sunday morning for a celebration breakfast in the church Great Hall to enjoy a well-earned meal, hear from the organizations benefiting from funds raised, and receive their special participant awards!

The Rutherford County Department of Social Services is doing their first Fun Run/ 5k event! This event is a free one that invites all members of the community to come and participate. The goal of the event is to promote the awareness of adoptions and the impact it can have on families. Donations are welcome! If you would like to make a donation, please do so in person or by mail with cash or a check made out to "The Rutherford County Department of Social Services." Welcome to Fayetteville's only Half Marathon on the Cape Fear River Trail! All races will feature different routes and use the Cape Fear River Trail. This trail is a beautiful, paved greenway trail along the Cape Fear River. The start and finish line will be at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden. There will be on course support.  There will be no pets allowed at this event. This race will have an option to add on a VIP experience. This includes a private heated tent for VIPs only, VIP only refreshments, Bag storage, and VIP line for early packet pick up. Limited to 35 entrants.
