This year is the Lope's 9th year, and money raised will go towards teen programming and the teen book collection. We've always said that this was a small, but mighty race. But through the years, participation has continued to decreased. After many years as an in-person event, we have decided to change things up going forward! We still want to keep the run going and give people the opportunity to support the library's Teen Advisory Board. Thank you for your support! 39% of Richmond children live in poverty.  Live Red has identified 21 neighborhoods in Richmond that score 10 or lower (out of 100) in childhood opportunity (using data from diversitydatakids.org). Children in these neighborhoods are 84% more likely to live in poverty as adults and have a life expectancy 8 years shorter than those in high opportunity neighborhoods.  But there is hope.  Children involved in fitness-related activities have a greater chance of success through improved social skills, self-discipline, confidence levels, & self-esteem.  Despite these benefits, children living in poverty are 3x more likely to be inactive. We aim to change that!   We use fitness to give children hope.  Our programs walk alongside children challenging them physically while introducing core life skills such as goal setting, empathy, self-belief, mindfulness, self-control, positive risk taking, resilience, and honesty. Jefferson, WI
Misty’s Legacy 100 Mile ChallengeCelebrating 100 Years of the Chincoteague Pony Swim & the Saving of Beebe Ranch Step into history and ride for a cause with the Misty’s Legacy 100 Mile Challenge — a virtual riding challenge event inspired by the timeless story of Misty of Chincoteague, written 78 years ago by Marguerite Henry. The book may have introduced Misty to the world, but the real story began long before.  The swim not only helps control the population of the ponies on the island and prevent starvation, it also historically has helped to be a fund raiser for the fire department.  In 1925, the Chincoteague Island Pony Swim became a formal community event, complete with a carnival, bringing families and horse lovers together from across the nation. This year marks the 100th anniversary of that cherished tradition — a century of saltwater swims, splashing ponies, and island spirit. 🐴 A Legacy PreservedIn 2024, with support from participants like you, WARHORSE Endurance
