The race was founded over twenty years ago when Carleen Taylor made a promise to her friend Peggy that she would help her raise awareness that colorectal cancer occurs in those under 50 years of age. Peggy was diagnosed when she was 42 years old and had four young boys the same age as Carleen’s four boys. Peggy had been misdiagnosed due to her age and wanted to warn other people that colon cancer was not an old person's disease. Sadly Peggy passed away at 45, three weeks before the first race. The race went on to raise awareness. Tragically, after 12 years of warning others about this cancer in the under-50 population, Carleen's 22-year-old son Connor was diagnosed in February 2016. He passed away at the age of 23 in September 2016. He was misdiagnosed for months due to his age. This cancer is now on the increase in teens, 20, and 30-year-old people. We need to raise awareness in the public and with healthcare professionals. We need to raise research funds for young onset screening and treatments. Please join us as we remember lives lost, bring Hope to those in treatment, and take action against this cancer.

Will you brave the elements to track him down??​Each year just as the season turns, hundreds of Squatch enthusiasts descend upon the woods of Alum Creek in search of the elusive Autumn Squatch.  The first recorded sighting was in the fall of 2012, with multiple sightings over the years. ​The Autumn Squatch is most commonly seen poking around the Rocks and Roots trail on late autumn nights as he passes through on his way south for the winter. To celebrate the coming of the Squatch we invite you to join us in hopes of catching a glimpse!​ When - Sunday, November 1st. Join us on Saturday, November 7, 2026, for the 3rd annual Memorial 3.1-mile (5K) run and 1-mile walk in honor of the legacy of Dr. John (Jack) O'Handley. Affectionately known as "Dr. O", Jack was the Medical Director of the Mount Carmel Street Medicine program for 25+ years, where he was a beloved physician, teacher, mentor, and friend to all. Dr. O was known by his patients to be a compassionate, loving, and gentle doctor, who loved a good corny joke. Dr. O practiced what he preached in living a very healthy lifestyle. He ran a 5K nearly every weekend with fellow colleagues, students, and friends, inspiring many to lead a more active life. The Street Medicine program provides no-cost medical care to individuals who are uninsured or underinsured. The mobile medical coach is accessible at nine locations across central Ohio and provides urgent care services for acute illness, infections, wounds, and unmanaged chronic disorders. Patients can also receive assistance with social needs such as food resources, specialty appointments, and connection to primary care. Three days a week, medical teams take to the streets, literally, bringing medical care to individuals living outside. The Street Medicine program has been in operation for forty years, reducing access barriers for those who are underserved. The Street Medicine program logs over 4,000 patient encounters annually. Proceeds from the race will support medical care provided in the community on behalf of the Street Medicine program. On the day of the race, the Street Medicine team will be collecting needed items that can be given a new life with patients. Good condition hoodies, athletic pants, and tennis shoes are needed for both men and women. Those bringing items to donate will be entered into a raffle drawing.

Join us on Sunday, November 22 for the Mary's Meals Run for Hope 5K Run/Walk at the beautiful Highbanks Metro Park in Lewis Center, Ohio! The race kicks off at 12:30PM but there will be plenty of fun activities before, during, and after the 5K. Mary’s Meals provides life-changing school meals to children living in some of the world’s poorest communities. The promise of a good meal brings hungry children into the classroom, where they can gain an education and better opportunities for the future. It costs just $25.20 to provide a child with meals in a place of education for an entire school year. Together, we can reach the next hungry child. Interested in supporting in another way? What Is OUTLAST? OUTLAST is a 6-hour trail endurance challenge where runners complete a 5K every hour, on the hour. Each lap must be finished within the hour to stay in the event. If you finish early, you rest until the next round. Miss a lap, and you’re out. Complete all six rounds, and you OUTLAST. This isn't just about speed — it's about pacing, discipline, and mental grit. Whether you're trying to survive all six or win your division, the challenge is the same: show up each hour, push your limits, and stay in it. Each course is trail-based, with natural terrain, elevation, and unpredictable conditions. You’ll have time between rounds to recover, refuel, and refocus — but not much. What You Earn: ​4 laps = “Grit Earned” patch 5 laps = “Survivor” patch 6 laps = Premium “OUTLAST” medal ​​All participants receive a premium OUTLAST Tee. Top male and female with the fastest combined 5K times at each event win the 1st Place OUTLAST award. Finishers are ranked on the world leaderboard—and the fastest runner across all OUTLAST 6-hour events (including the Championship) will be crowned World Champion and take home a cash prize of $1,000. The top 5 Male and Female 6-hour champions from each city will earn a spot in the Outlast World Championship in DFW December 4 2027, where they’ll compete against the best of the best at the end of the Tour, and the 1st-3rd place male and female winners of the Championship take home a cash prize, listed below. We are excited to return to Alum Creek State Park beach on Saturday, September 25th! You also have the option to run or walk with your four-legged friends virtually between 9/23-26 if you cannot attend the event in person. We have over 100 great auction and raffle items online for you to bid on and feature some at the event on the 25th! All participants get a soft t-shirt, swag bag, and medal! Friends of the Shelter is an all-volunteer, 501c3 non-profit organization established to fund the medical care of the sick and injured dogs at the Franklin County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center. The Franklin County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center is funded by the county budget and from funds generated through fees, such as dog licenses. However, these sources of funding are not sufficient to provide medical care for the Shelter dogs that need more than basic services. The Friends of the Shelter was formed in 2003 to save these sick or injured—but otherwise adoptable—dogs so they can be adopted into loving, forever families. Friends of the Shelter is an all-volunteer group of local individuals who donate their time to the day-to-day operations of the organization. Additionally, the volunteers plan and coordinate fundraising events, marketing and public relations projects and provide accounting and legal guidance. As an all-volunteer group, the organization is able to keep overhead very low, allowing over 95% of donations to help our shelter dogs in need.
