Hi CTC Family, As we kick off a new year, we’re excited to share a new opportunity just for CTC members, the CTC 1000 Miles Club Challenge!  The goal is simple: run 1,000 miles over the course of the year. Whether you hit that number exactly, go beyond it, or use it as motivation to stay consistent, this challenge is about showing up and stacking miles. This is not about pace or comparison. It’s about consistency, commitment, and building strong habits over time. Some weeks will be big, some will be lighter, and that’s okay. Every mile counts. We’ll share periodic check-ins, encouragement, and shoutouts throughout the year to help keep everyone motivated. Next Step Training - Females in Training (FIT)

The Females-in-Training (FIT) program is designed for women of all ages who want to learn to run in a supportive, non-coed environment. FIT is primarily for women who are fairly new to running or coming back to running after a break. The FIT coaches will support and guide you so that you will be ready to run a 5K (3.1 miles) distance by the end of the program. If you are already running, you are welcome to participate if you do not run faster than a 10-minute pace for your typical run. If you are already faster than this pace, we encourage you to try one of the other Striders programs. All runners must be at least 18 years of age to participate in the program. We want running to be a way for you to meet your fitness goals while having fun and developing friendships with women who are also embarking on their running journey. WELCOME TO THE AMERICAN BOTTOM This is a unique road ultra on a beautiful course, following the Mississippi River, as you run through the historic American Bottom. Race headquarters is in Columbia, Illinois just outside of St. Louis, Missouri. The race offers a 110 mile and a 55 mile option. The course will loosely follow the American Discovery Trail and the Kaskaskia - Cahokia Trail (Illinois' first road). You’ll watch the sun rise over the Illinois bluffs while running on levees and deserted backroads, from Columbia to the confluence of the Kaskaskia and Mississippi Rivers. You’ll make your way through many historic sites, including Piggott's Fort, Fort de Chartres, and the town of Prairie du Rocher. This is a flat and fast course with generous cut off times, plenty of aid stations, and a friendly atmosphere. Looking to train for a 10 Mile race this year? Join the Howard County Striders for one of their prestigious training programs! The Next Step 10 Mile Program is for runners of varying abilities. Participants will do a 3-mile time trial at Wilde Lake High School on Monday, March 23rd so coordinators can group participants with those of similar abilities.  Weekly training runs will involve a variety of running techniques including speed work and hill work to improve running performance.  All runners must be able to run 3 miles before starting the program.

Molly's Miles

Molly's Miles 5K, 10K and Virtual Run is a mid-Missouri race that raises money to support the family members of police officers killed in the line of duty. All proceeds from the race will be provided to Missouri Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.). The race is named after Officer Molly Suzanne Thomas Bowden who was mortally wounded while conducting a routine traffic stop on the night of January 10, 2005 in Columbia, Missouri. Molly passed away on February 10, 2005 at the age of 26 years old. She had been on the Columbia Police force for over three years and was the first Columbia Police officer killed in the line of duty. The slogan for this race is "In Honor of the Survivors," and focuses on the surviving families and affected co-workers of Missouri law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. Miles for Missions 5k and 1Mile Fun Run

The Women's Distance Festival 5K (also known as WDF 5K) is a road race exclusively for female participants of all ages.  It is held at the Athletic Building of Howard Community College in Columbia, MD.  It is one of many events that comprise the Maryland RRCA WDF Series. Next Step Training - Half Full Marathon

Join the Howard County Striders for one of their prestigious training programs! Are you ready to take your Half or Full marathon endurance training to the “Next Step”? If so, you’re in for a fun ride this Summer and Fall! Please be advised this program is NOT intended for brand new runners, nor for anyone 18 years of age or younger. Rather, the Next Step is to take your running to the Next Level. As such, there are certain minimum essentials required to be successful: Minimum Base MileageIf targeting a FULL marathon:Able to run at least 20-25 miles per/week (base mileage).Able to perform a long run of AT LEAST 10 miles at start of programIf targeting a HALF marathon:Able to run AT LEAST 10-15 miles per/week Minimum PaceYou need to be able to maintain a pace of 13 minutes or faster pace of constant running.  Runners who are unable to maintain this pace on the time trial, may be asked to switch programs to one of a shorter distance.  We will not be including a walk/run or Galloway style

Welcome to the 3rd annual MTC Zilla Tri Sprint Triathlon WITH NEW EXPANDED YOUTH SHORT SPRINT AGE GROUPS! This triathlon is a great event for all ages, 10 and up, beginners and seasoned athletes. Event hosted by the Metro-Tri Club. Race begins in the beautiful Bolm-Schuhkraft Park in Columbia, Illinois. The SPRINT event, open to ages 14 and up, begins with a 300 meter serpentine swim in Columbia Bath and Tennis pool. The 11.2-mile bike course has mostly flat roads with one challenging hill, and railroad crossing (time not adjusted for stoppage at train track). The bike is non-draft legal. The 5K run course will take you through a neighborhood, onto the trail, and will have plenty of shade. The YOUTH SHORT SPRINT, open to ages 10-17 years, will begin with a 200 meter serpentine swim in Columbia Bath and Tennis pool. Join the Howard County Striders for one of their prestigious training programs! 10K Goal Race will be the Columbia Classic 10K race on the first Sunday in October The Next Step Building to 10K Program is for runners of varying abilities. Participants will do a 2 mile time trial July 23 at Longfellow Elementary at 6pm so coordinators can group participants with those of similar abilities.  Weekly training runs will involve a variety of running techniques including speed work and hill work to improve running performance.   All runners should be able to run 3 miles before starting the program.
