The 2nd Annual Kristen's Krew 5K is part of a full weekend of exciting events honoring Kristen McCartney and her perseverance - and raising money for the Kristen McCartney Perseverance Scholarship. Funds raised will help young women reach their college goals. Kristen McCartney was a beloved daughter, sister, and friend, who passed away in 2021. Kristen had a form of epilepsy that was not fully controlled by medication, and could be triggered by sunlight. That never stopped her from living the life she wanted. She played competitive soccer until she went to college, worked a part time job, spent time with friends and family traveling and creating all kinds of memories. To honor her memory, the Kristen McCartney Perseverance Scholarship will support female students from her home state of North Carolina. It takes passion and perseverance to pursue upper-level education. This scholarship will recognize those traits in others, fueling their excitement and encouraging their futures. Students will be selected based on academic excellence, community involvement, and inclusivity. Female high school juniors and seniors in North Carolina are eligible to apply if they have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have volunteer or non-profit experience. US Road Running Races US Road Running races are built for runners and walkers who like friendly, low-pressure race days with just enough competition to keep things exciting. Our events are local, welcoming, and easy to jump into, whether you are chasing a PR, collecting another themed medal, working toward series points, or just getting outside with good people. Most races are small enough to feel personal but organized enough to feel official. You can expect a clear course, helpful race staff, finisher medals, results, and a relaxed community feel. Bring your fast shoes, your steady walking pace, your favorite running buddy, or your best “I signed up for this on purpose” smile. We will be glad to see you at the start line. A quick race-day note: because many US Road Running events are small local races, we normally have one or two staff members at each race. EMS is not stationed on site, and water stations are limited to the finish area at the end of each lap and at the race finish. Join us Father's Day Weekend (Saturday, June 20th) for the 11th annual Good Hops “Will Run for Beer” trail race followed by post-race awards and festivities at the brewery! This 5k(ish) beer run/walk will start at Good Hops Brewing & run through the trails in the spectacular Carolina Beach State Park. Kick off the summer season at Trailside Brewing at Lennox station with the Summer Session 10k & 5k! Both courses will be fully on the all new Ecusta Trail greenway system! The Ecusta Trail is a newly transformed greenway that was originally a rail line. Both courses start at Trailside Brewing and are an out-and-back all on the trail. We’ve also added a kids’ .25 mile Sunshine Sprint untimed event before the 10k and 5k! The Sunshine Sprint is $10 and includes a finisher medal and race bib. Sunshine Sprinters can add on a race shirt for $20 during check out. Youth small and medium available. There are not awards for the Sunshine Sprint. A Finisher medal, 1 beer from Trailside (or non-alcoholic beverage!), race shirt, & chip timing are included in race registration. Celebrate the 4th of July with the Firecracker 5K/10K at the Riverside Park in Bryson City, NC. The race is followed by the Freedom Festival.
