Fineview Citizens Council is hosting its 30th Annual Urban Step & Trail Challenge on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Participants will ascend Fineview’s hills, streets, and staircases. Among the steps are Pittsburgh’s STEEPEST stair set (371 steps) on Rising Main Avenue, which is the equivalent of a 17-story building! The course covers 12 public staircases for a total of over 1,600 steps and provides breathtaking views along the way. All proceeds from the event will benefit our programming related to community beautification, preserving affordability, and events.

US Road Running Races US Road Running races are built for runners and walkers who like friendly, low-pressure race days with just enough competition to keep things exciting. Our events are local, welcoming, and easy to jump into, whether you are chasing a PR, collecting another themed medal, working toward series points, or just getting outside with good people. Most races are small enough to feel personal but organized enough to feel official. You can expect a clear course, helpful race staff, finisher medals, results, and a relaxed community feel. Bring your fast shoes, your steady walking pace, your favorite running buddy, or your best “I signed up for this on purpose” smile. We will be glad to see you at the start line. A quick race-day note: because many US Road Running events are small local races, we normally have one or two staff members at each race. Race packets are available at the Blair Regional YMCA from 6:30 - 7:40am before the race. All registrations will receive a tri-blend t-shirt. There will be no race changes on race day. The Battle of Mogadishu was part of Operation Gothic Serpent fought on 3–4 October 1993, in Mogadishu, Somalia, between forces of the United State and the forces of the Somali National Alliance (SNA) of south Mogadishu. The battle was part of the broader Somali Civil War that had begun 1991. On 3 October 1993, Task Force Ranger, U.S. forces under the command of MG William Garrison, planned a mission to seize two of Aidid's high-ranking lieutenants during a meeting deep in the city Mogadishu. The raid was only intended to last an hour, but morphed into an overnight fire fight and rescue operation extending into the daylight hours of 4 October 1993. While the goal of the operation was achieved, it spiraled into the deadly Battle of Mogadishu. As the operation was ongoing, Somali forces shot down three American UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters using RPG-7s, with two crashing deep in hostile territory. A desperate defense of the two downed helicopters began and fighting lasted through the night to defend the survivors of the crashes. In the morning, a UNOSOM II armored convoy fought their way to the besieged defenders and withdrew. Due to limited space in the armored vehicles, several of the Soldier, those were still able to move on their own, had to move by foot with full combat gear to the safety of friendly areas. Casualties included 18 dead American soldiers and 73 wounded. Estimates of Somali casualties greatly vary—with most estimates set between 315 and 2,000. This event commemorates the sacrifice, dedication, and fortitude of the service members who bravely fought and died so others, in a foreign country, could live. It is a 4+ mile race. Participants receive a Cooling Towel, event Coin, drink ticket and a meal hosted by the VFW.

Come together on October 3rd for the 4th annual "Miles for Mark" event, followed by a celebration of life at Palmer Park in Skippack, PA. The event will kick off at 9 AM and is open to all runners, walkers, or anyone who wants to show their love and support. We suddenly lost Mark on February 7th 2023 to his battle with mental health. Mark was a one-of-a-kind individual who brightened the lives of those he knew. He had a kind and generous heart, and anyone who knew Mark could always count on him. He had a zest for life, and there was no activity he wouldn't try at least twice. Mark was a joy to be around, with a great sense of humor, and never failed to bring a smile to everyone's face. He was always finding ways to support his local community, whether buying bread from "Bakers on Broad" or getting his americano with cinnamon powder from "Blossom Cafe." He was extremely loyal to his clean eating habits except for ice cream. Mark was constantly trying to better himself every day, whether starting the day with meditation or ending the day by writing down his gratitude. He was a devoted father to his three children, a successful business owner, avid runner, accomplished Spartan competitor, best friend, brother, and my better half. Even though Mark has passed away, he continues to show up for me and many others. The days feel dark and empty and will never be the same without him, but having these "signs" brings peace and comfort in knowing he is still here but just in a different light. This event is an opportunity to come together to honor Mark, show support for suicide prevention and raise awareness for mental health. The White Cane 5k is a unique event for all ages and abilities, with blind and sighted runners competing together. The event will help fund the programs and services at North Central Sight Services. Coop's Loop Endurance Run is a 6-hour timed event on a 2.1 mile looped course. The goal is to run, walk, or hike as many loops as possible within the 6-hour event! Awards will be given to the top 3 males, females, and relay teams. The fastest loop by an open male and female will also be awarded. Coop’s Loop is a 2.1-mile trail loop with 400 feet of gain and descent, designed to test your legs, reward your focus, and keep you coming back for more. The course begins and ends at the Four Seasons Pavilion at the southwest end of Brady’s Run Park. Runners pass through the start gate and immediately hit the defining feature of the loop—a relentless opening climb. Within the first half mile, you’ll ascend from roughly 860 feet to 1,100 feet, with sections reaching a steep 24.6% grade. It’s a leg burner right out of the gate and sets the tone for the lap. At the top, a clearly marked left turn leads you onto one of the best ridgeline single-track sections in the park. This stretch offers a brief opportunity to settle in before the second climb hits. After a quick downhill, the trail pitches back up again—shorter than the first climb, but comparable in intensity—bringing you to the high point of the course at approximately 1,150 feet. From there, another marked left sends you into a flowing descent down well-established switchbacks. The trail is smooth, intuitive, and fast, winding through a scenic hemlock forest that defines this section of the park. Around the one-mile mark, the course transitions into predominantly downhill terrain. Runners continue descending on single track, passing competitors grinding their way up the second climb—adding a unique, interactive energy to the loop format. The trail eventually connects to a service road, guiding you back toward the start/finish. As you approach the pavilion, you’ll take a right over a small bridge, pass through the central aid station, and re-enter the start/finish chute—where the next lap begins. There will be a single aid station located at the start/finish line. Participants with specific dietary needs or allergies are encouraged to bring their own nutrition. Pacers are not permitted. Bib pickup will be available the evening before the event at the Four Seasons Pavilion, as well as race morning beginning at 6:00 AM. Parking is first come, first served. Pets are allowed at the event but must remain on a leash at all times and are not permitted on the course. The race will begin at 8:00 AM and run for six hours, concluding at 2:00 PM, and all loops must be completed by the 2:00 PM cutoff to count. Spectators and crew are welcome but must remain at the start/finish area, with no access permitted on the course. Awards will be distributed following the conclusion of the event once all results have been finalized by the timing vendor. 6–8 weeks prior to the event, the runner guide will be posted on the freedom-outdoors.net website and emailed to all participants. The primary parking area will be adjacent to the Four Seasons Pavilion. Additional parking will be available at the park’s eastern entrance near the ice rink, located at 121 Brady’s Run Road, Beaver Falls, PA 15010.

Fineview Citizens Council is hosting its 31st Annual Urban Step & Trail Challenge on Saturday, October 3, 2026. Participants will ascend Fineview’s hills, streets, and staircases. Among the steps are Pittsburgh’s STEEPEST stair set (371 steps) on Rising Main Avenue, which is the equivalent of a 17-story building! The course covers 12 public staircases for a total of over 1,600 steps and provides breathtaking views along the way. All proceeds from the event will benefit our programming related to community beautification, preserving affordability, and events.

The Abington Fest 5K and Kids' Dash is back! These races are a part of Abington Fall Fest, a weekend of celebrations in Abington Township. The 5K race starts and ends in Roslyn Park, with a course that goes through the Roslyn neighborhood. There are rolling up-hills on the first half, with the second half coming downhill. The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. There will be awards for the top finishers in each gender category, with an award for the first place finishers in each gender category who are Abington residents. The Kids' Dash will start at 8:00 a.m. and will be on the Marsden Soccer Field. The Kids' Dash will have staggered start times for age groups. Every child who participates will receive a medal. Third Annual Boal City Oktoberfest 5K Trail Race Get ready for a 5 K trail run on Sunday, October 5th, during the heart of Oktoberfest and peak fall foliage! For the most elite runners out there, get ready to push your limits and challenge yourself to the max. If you're 12 years old or younger, you can run with your friends and parents on the Mini Monster Trail Loop. (.04 less than 1/2 mile)  As a bonus, all participants 21 and older receive a brew to keep the spirit alive long after the run. Awards will be given after the race. Come out and join the fun and competition.  Parking InformationParking is only available at Boal City Brewery, 235 Old Boalsburg Ave Boalsburg Pa 16827. Pedestrians are advised to take extra care when crossing any streets, especially if accompanied by small children. All roads will be open to traffic, so please do not park along the streets in Boalsburg or in the nearby neighborhoods. Packet Pick UpPacket pick-up will be available race morning for 45 minute

For the race utilize the north Park swimming pool parking area. Race is located at Harmar Pavilion. About the event A classic cross country Race/Walk set on the trails of beautiful North Park near Pittsburgh. Partly on the Rachel Carson Trail and run at the beginning of foliage for the fall in Western Pennsylvania! This will be the 19th YEAR!!! of racing and helping to benefit an orphanage in the Philippines. Handmade bamboo medal awards. Folk dancing performance at end! Race Start Times 20k @ 8:00 am 10k @ 9:30 am 5k @ 10:15 am Race starts and ends at the North Harmar Pavilion. There is no race participant parking at the Harmar Pavilion. For the race utilize the North Park Swimming Pool parking lot and take a short walk (0.10 ~ 0.25 mile) to the Harmar Pavilion.
