2026 Avenue of the Giants Marathon

It uses the same course as the Avenue of the Giants Marathon and is produced by the same running club.The Avenue of the Giants is one of the most beautiful races in the world!  It runs through old growth redwoods and follows a natural creek in the middle of a state park.  Staged on "The Avenue of the Giants" in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, located in rural Northern California. Course is on a paved road that winds gently up hill but is mostly a flat, fast destination race.  With little to distract you, the tall trees inspire the athlete in each of us to be strong.  The course is certified and the marathon is a Boston Qualifying event.

The annual Waves & Whales 5K Trail Run‐Walk is held on the Mendocino Coast in Point Arena. Taking full advantage of the location, the run takes place on the Point Arena-Stornetta Unit of the California Coastal National Monument. The course begins behind City Hall in the conifer forest off Highway 1, makes its way to the coast where it follows the bluffs, and then winds back into the pine and cypress forest. Proceeds from the Waves & Whales Trail Run support ACORN Partners in Education’s environmental stewardship program, Students Protecting the Coast, which engages youth in hands‐on learning with a focus on conservation and community outreach. Intermediate Sailing: May 9th & 10th

Two-day adult sailing classes are offered most weekends from 9 am to 4 pm at Fiddler's Cove Marina. Classes are open to all eligible MWR patrons and sponsored guests. Minimum age requirement is 16 years or older with a parent or guardian.   **A minimum of 5 hours of sail time is required post beginner sailing course.  Class fees per person vary by military affiliation and rank. Dependent fees are calculated at the sponsoring active duty or retiree rate. Pre-registration is required as classes can fill up quickly. Registration includes boat rental, instruction, and textbooks. Students per boat will be kept to the minimum amount possible in order to maximize learning potential, and will range from one to four. Number of students per boat is dependent on the boat size, sailing conditions and the skills being developed in the class. On completion of the course, participants receive a Navy Sailing Qualification Card. A valid California Boater Card and/or a course completion certificate

This time of year will provide participants with sweeping views of green ridge lines punctuated by colorful wildflowers.
