The NCANA Run for Joy is a 5K race that supports mental health advocacy and wellness for health care trainees. Mental health issues and suicide are becoming increasingly common among health care trainees and providers.  Training programs are usually very rigorous, caring for patients is stressful, and those who care for others often feel that they can’t or shouldn’t admit that they need care themselves. Unfortunately, there is often a stigma associated with mental illness, and trainees may feel that admitting that they struggle could damage their careers.     Run for Joy seeks to combat this stigma and support the mental wellness of heath care trainees. Proceeds from the race help finance initiatives that enhance mental wellness and provide support for those needing mental health services. Every step taken and dollar raised goes directly to help find a cure and improve the quality of life for patients with this cancer. Whether you are a seasoned runner or a casual walker, all paces and ages are welcome! About Cholangiocarcinoma: Bile duct cancer, or cholangiocarcinoma, is a rare and aggressive cancer that forms in the thin tubes (bile ducts) that carry digestive fluid from the liver to the small intestine. It typically affects people over 50, often remaining undetected until advanced stages, when it causes symptoms like jaundice. About 15,000 people are diagnosed with this rare disease in the US every year and treatment often involves surgery, chemotherapy, or immunotherapy. The mental health epidemic, especially in adolescents, only receives attention when a tragedy has occurred or a life is lost. Stroll into Light is a recognition that each person is fighting their own battle each and every day. Whether that be anxiety, depression, or any mental health related issue, no one person should feel alone in their situation. As a community, we must support each other and advocate for peoples’ stories to be heard. At this candlelight event, each attendee will receive a candle to reflect and mourn as we walk side by side. Stroll into Light will also have an optional time to reflect, and there will also be an opportunity to receive hope from individuals who themselves have risen from the darkness to walk in the light of life! We are now entering our 19th year of the Turkey Strut 5K! There is both an in-person and a virtual option, so you participate in whichever way works for you. Virtual participants will have Thanksgiving Day through the following Sunday to complete their 5K or 1 mile and submit their results (results submission is optional). You can either pick up your shirt and medal at packet pick up on Wednesday or you can add-on shipping during registration and we'll mail it to you. Both events, the 5K and the 1 mile, are open to runners and walkers alike. The 5K is a chip-timed event; the 1 mile is not timed but there is a clock running at the finish line for you to check your time as you cross. This event benefits the We Care House of Winston-Salem. The mission of the We Care House is to meet the physical needs of the people in order to position them so their spiritual needs can be met without distraction. The We Care House is an outreach of St. Peter’s that provides food to the local community. Participants are asked to bring at least 3 canned food items to donate to the We Care House food bank. The need is currently overwhelming and the food drive has a huge impact. All items are needed but breakfast items tend to run out the quickest (grits, pancake mix, syrup, oatmeal). In addition to canned goods, other items that are helpful are dry pinto beans, rice, potato flakes, spaghetti, etc. The event takes place at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds which has PLENTY of parking and room for everyone. The course is a USATF Certified 5K course and a 1 mile fun run/walk. Finally, you don’t have to sit around the house all day waiting for the turkey to finish baking. Place that turkey in the oven and come join the fun at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds! The race will begin at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds off Deacon Blvd just across the street from BB&T Field/Stadium. With the incredible year to year growth of this event we have designed this course to accommodate the participants and families. The course runs near BB&T Field/Stadium, Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, and the Deacon Baseball field stadium. Given that the course is USATF Certified, final run times will go toward state and national records. Bring your family and out-of-town guests for a great start to the Thanksgiving morning. Strollers and dogs (leashed and well-behaved around crowds/other dogs) are welcome to join the fun! No scooters, bikes, or wheeled recreational vehicles are allowed on course. The awards are very unique for this event. Turkeys will be given to the Top 3 Overall Male & Female and Top 3 Overall Masters Male & Female. All participants in the 5K will receive Long Sleeve T-shirts, one-mile fun run participants have the option to purchase a shirt during registration. The Mistletoe Run is a family-friendly and community-centered event that includes a certified & chip-timed Half Marathon and 5K course! For the sixth consecutive year, Justin will spend his birthday running his age in miles, all to raise money and awareness for HOPE of Winston Salem! Like the last three years, there will be a 5K, 10K, and 1 Mile Fun Run to take place as Justin runs laps around the loop at Kimberley Park. We will also have a 49 mile Relay - so grab some friends and share the fun! As always, you can sign up for the 49 mile "Fun Run" to go the full distance! This year's after party will be the best yet, so stick around after the race for food, drink, fellowship and giveaways! The Course is a .55 mile crushed gravel trail loop at Kimberley Park, just outside of downtown Winston Salem. 5Kers will run a little under 6 laps and 10Kers will run just over 11 laps. Each race will start at different times to allow people to spread out. This is a family event complete with prizes, giveaways, and fellowship. Prizes will be awarded for Top Overall Female and Male finishers. Food and snacks will be available on site to help you fuel up post-race. EAGLES of Grace is a faith based mentoring program utilizing a holistic and social emotional learning approach to educate, empower and equip youth and young adults to be successful. Our inaugural 5K scheduled May 31st is a great way for us to come together as a community and pray for the success and well being of our youth in Winston Salem and surrounding counties. The 5K will also serve as an annual fundraising campaign to fund supporting initiatives for EAGLES of Grace Inc. youth mentoring and educational programs. Runners of all ages and abilities are invited to escape the ho-hum of ordinary road races. Five events in one night, four on the track and a 5K cross country. You must complete all five events to get a finishing score and receive the coveted Ultimate Runner t-shirt and a 4.91 Ultimate Runner car decal.  The order of events is 1 mile, 400m, 800m, 100m, 5K XC.  Track events are run in heats based upon submitted seed times.
