The Frick & Frack Story: In 2017, we held our 1st Annual Frick & Frack 5K benefiting two wonderful sisters in our Hampton Roads community named Pattie and Jackie... affectionately know as Frick & Frack. They were both diagnosed with breast cancer in the same year and we were able to come together and help them in a beautiful way. The story doesn't end there. A few months after that race, Pattie’s daughter Lyndsey was also diagnosed with her second round of Breast Cancer. Yes...you read that right. Within less than a year, the same family had been struck 3 times! All 3 women are SURVIVORS today, and along with their framily and community, these women have set out on a crusade to take care of others, just as they were cared for during their battle. They have appropriately adopted the slogan...Her fight is our fight. All proceeds from this event stay local and will benefit the Free Range Sisters Foundation. This foundation is set-up to assist our local female warriors with a variety of needs to include: medical connections and assistance, transportation, and our beloved comfort baskets for those healing from surgery and/or chemotherapy/radiation treatment. It has been our privilege to also walk alongside each of our warriors and help them with other needs such as general moral support, household care and financial assistance. Until there is a cure for these cancers, we will always have someone in need! By supporting this event, you are directly enabling our community to step up and fight together. Her fight is OUR fight! Here's the story behind this race: Bradlee LaMontagne's life was cut way too short at the age of 21 on December 10, 2020. He was tragically killed by a negligent boat driver in Cozumel, Mexico. He was a Junior at Johns Hopkins and also the Captain of the wrestling team. He loved wrestling. He started wrestling in elementary school with Great Neck Wrestling Club and continued on until college. He was two time captain of the Cox Wrestling team and a state finalist and two time state placer, region champion, and had over 120 varsity wins. He was an NCAA All American Scholar at Johns Hopkins placing in the region. Bradlee has 4 siblings and many family and friends. He was loving, kind, passionate and hard working. He had the kind of energy and positivity that would fill the room and bring a smile to everyone around them. He will be forever missed and loved. One Thanksgiving of note, 2019, Bradlee wanted to enjoy Thanksgiving just like everyone else. Except when you're a wrestler, as some of you know, wrestlers cut weight so it's not as easy to just eat and lay around like most of us get to do. Around the holidays it's pretty torturous especially when everyone is eating until their buttons pop off. Well, Brad wanted to eat and eat big, so he did what anyone would do, he ran 15.04 miles Thanksgiving morning😳!! Let me say it again, 15.04 MILES JUST TO EAT💪 That is BRADASS! Let me preface this by saying, this is not 15 miles and it's not Thanksgiving morning. But it is 6.2 miles and is in Seashore State Park (or First Landing as it is now called), similar to where he ran. I think he would be proud of all of us, if we could do half of what he did (or a little less than half) to raise money for wrestlers' scholarships and to celebrate his life and legacy. 🦃 Little Neck Turkey Trot & Gobble Wobble Join LNRC at 8:30 AM on Thanksgiving morning for a fun-filled community run in Little Neck! The Turkey Trot and Gobble Wobble are family-friendly events open to runners and walkers of all ages. There will be a 5k and 1 mile route that stays on the Little Neck Road path, but roads will not be closed. This isn't a timed race - it's a chance to celebrate fitness, friendship, and gratitude before the big feast. We’ll start and finish at the Little Neck Swim and Racquet Club, following our usual run club-style format with plenty of good vibes and holiday cheer. 🚧 Safety Reminder Please remember that roads will not be closed for this event. Both the 5K and 1-mile routes stay on the Little Neck Road path, but please be alert to traffic, especially when crossing streets. This is a fun run, not a race — all about fitness, friendship, and gratitude before the big feast! 🧥 Donation Update We're collecting donations for the Virginia Beach Housing Resource Center again this year. Last year, we collected and donated a truckload of clothing that went to supporting individuals in our area experiencing homelessness during the winter. This event is held in honor of Charlie and James Normile and will raise money for the Navy SEAL Foundation in memory of those men who lost their lives serving our country. Join us for the 21st Annual Coastal Edge Steel Pier Classic for a 5k race along the beautiful Virginia Beach Boardwalk over Memorial Day Weekend!  Flat out and back course. T-Shirts and medals will be awarded to all finishers. Plus enjoy the Coastal Edge Student Art Pavilion, and check out some of the best in pro and amateur surf with the Coastal Edge Steel Pier Classic by Katin WSL 1000 surfing contest.  Runners will start the race on the boardwalk at 2nd street. In 1999, The Allen Stone Braveheart Memorial Races started as the Braveheart Run Swim Run, to benefit the American Heart Association.  Allen Stone, a local Navy SEAL, and friend of the race committee, raced and won his age group. Tragically, Allen died in a SEAL training accident just a few months later. The race committee decided to rename the race in Allen's memory.  Since then, the race has added a 5K and a kids 1 mile race to have something for everyone in the family. This event has raised over $1 million for our charities, the Navy SEAL Foundation, Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad, and the Virginia Beach Lifesaving Association while honoring those that have made the ultimate sacrifice and their families.
