The Carolina Strive RISE UP! Run Over Cancer 5K will be a city-wide race to raise funds for area cancer research/treatment. Funds will stay local to support patients through UNC Health Nash Foundation’s Cancer Fund. The Foundation works to fill gaps in health care and community outreach through programs that are not part of the hospital’s regular operating budget or when additional support is needed. Proceeds from this event will go specifically to help cancer patients with things like medication, transportation, and nutritional supplements. The event check-in starts at 7:00am EST with a 1K Fun Run start at 8:00am followed by the 5K at 8:30am. There will be individual awards (multiple age ranges), Carolina Strive drawstring swag bags, Carolina Strive hand towels, and one size fits all wristbands to commemorate our annual event. All participants will receive their personal time and a certificate. An awesome opportunity for family fun and to train for upcoming marathon qualifiers while joining the fight against cancer! Enjoy our scenic course highlighting the City of Rocky Mount’s historic landmarks & parks along with receiving keepsake giveaways as a participant! This philanthropic event will aid our mission in developing area youth into well-rounded citizens and serve as a corporate team building outing. Let's all RISE UP! and Run Over Cancer together! The Four Mile will start and finish at The Rocky Mount Mills, and take runners on a scenic view of Rocky Mount's Battle Park. This park runs parallel to the Tar River, and shortly before the halfway point, crosses the river over what was once the longest wooden suspension bridge in the US. ​The 1.5 Mile Fun Run and Walk will start with the Four Mile race and will turn around shortly after entering the park. This shorter distance is perfect for young participants, or participants who require walking.

This family-oriented, Superhero themed race offers a course that challenges our hardcore distance runners. Short distance runners have complimented the design of the 5K course. Walkers will still be able to enjoy the scenic vistas of historic Rocky Mount. Come dressed in your favorite superhero costume! The race begins on South Main Street and ends back at the Southern VA Child Advocacy Center with tours and refreshments! Our registration prices will increase on Monday, December 14th. SAVINGS Individuals 18 and under will automatically receive a STUDENT discount for this year's race upon registration! No Coupon Needed. Run as long or as short as you wish- we'll have awards for longest distance over the 24-hour period, most laps in the first 4 hours, most laps from noon-midnight (12 hours), and most laps from midnight to 9am (8 hours). Start when you want, stop when you're done. This course is a USATF Certified 1.178 mile loop (VA17001BDS). Chip Timing will be used. The course is a mostly flat, non-paved surface (cinders). You might find gaiters helpful!

On Saturday, May 16, 2026, the Rotary Club of Rocky Mount is hosting the annual TACKLE THE TAR 5K Obstacle Course Race & Family Fun Day at the Rocky Mount Sports Complex.  Our first heat begins with our Kid’s 1-mile fun run at 8:45 A.M. and festivities will continue until noon.   All proceeds from this event go directly to the funding of college scholarships for deserving students in the Rocky Mount Area.  Since 2016, thanks to you, we have raised and awarded over $510,000 in scholarships to youth in our community.  Thank you for making such a difference in the lives of so many! Tackle the Tar is a 5K Obstacle Course Race that begins at the Rocky Mount Sports complex and courses through historic Battle Park and the E.B. Grain Company property.  It comes complete with a MUD PIT and 20+ OBSTACLES to overcome.  All racers will receive: T-shirt, medal, one free beer (if over 21), and goodie bag.
