Into the Darkness Night Trail Run

Roanoke, VA
This is the Roanoke Valley’s most unique event. The course will take you through 3.6 miles of the Explore Park. Following the successful Mountain Bike Nationals XCO event, we finally got out to the Explore Park to see what we could put together for our 19th Into the Darkness. The course will be totally different this year and we'll be running the XCO course in reverse. The course consists of .25 miles of asphalt road before putting you on twisty rolling single track for the rest of the event. The trails will be marked with reflective arrows, glow sticks, and the occasional surprise (nothing scary, this is a family event). Every effort will be taken so that you will easily be able to find your way and stay on course.

This event features a flat and (mostly) flat course along the Roanoke River Greenway with ample space at the start/finish line for celebrating the season. Finisher "medals" will be custom ornaments with the event logo and year, and participants who register by November 10 will also earn a cozy event BoCo gear beanie. This is a chip-timed race by Run Roanoke timing, and all results will be posted on the Run Roanoke website after race day as well as a day-of live text of results. Don't let the "race" name scare you away- this event is a family-friendly fitness outing! More details forthcoming on additional finish line festivities and register early! Registration increases are incremental through race day. Frozen Toe 10k

Roanoke, VA
The Chestnut Ridge Loop is a great loop trail that is easily accessed from downtown. People use this trail throughout the year and join it with other trails in the area to train for many of the races throughout the valley. Come out and enjoy this event and kick off the New Year with a healthy activity. Walkers are welcome. The Chestnut Ridge Loop Trail is a 5.6 mile challenging single track trail that loops around the Roanoke Mountain Campground. This is a great trail with a little bit of everything. It is a fast and flowy trail that holds up well to the winter weather and is perfect for a January trail event. We are very fortunate to be able to use the New Hope Christian Church as our Event Headquarters. They have offered us a nice facility close to the loop trail with plenty of parking. In the event of inclement weather, that cancels our National Park Service permit, we’ll have the race the following Saturday, 1/17/26, at Moneta Park (see https://mountainjunkies.net/frozen-toe-3-0-at-moneta-park/)
