Proceeds will benefit the Friends of Fusion Foundation, which will support organizations that Chris cared deeply about.

The idea for the 5K came about from the desire to promote wellness, comradery and joy amongst the Caregivers of ChristianaCare. In the spirit of Relationship Based Care, to make a commitment to our patients, our colleagues and ourselves.  Our hope is to inspire healthy lifestyles, work life balance and teamwork at a fun and exciting event for ChristianaCare caregivers and their families and friends. Whether you choose to run or walk, we are hopeful to make this year's Nurses Week 5K one of our best yet. This year's event is free, however we encourage donations.  All donations this year will be going to Nurses House - a nurse-managed, nonprofit organization helping nurses in need across the United States. We are two Delaware Occupational and Speech Therapists who are planning the 3rd Annual Stroke Awareness 5k Run/Walk event. We have identified a need for support and awareness in our community for stroke survivors and their caregivers.  Our hope is to connect this wonderful community with local businesses and resources to shed a light on this important cause.   Proceeds from this race will go towards supporting our foundation's financial grant that is available to anyone living within the state of Delaware, to be used for any stroke related care not covered by insurance.  Some costs that the grant covers include but are not limited to: adaptive clothing, adaptive equipment to improve safety and quality of life, mobility related DME, transportation to and from appointments, speech generating devices, and thickener secondary to dysphagia.  Check out our website at www.shinealightonstroke.org and our social media @shinealightonstroke (Facebook and Instagram). Join us for the memory walk in Downtown Newark. This walk is to bring awareness to those that have died due to substance use disorder, those that are still struggling and our unsheltered population.  Feel free to bring a sign to carry on this walk or a pair of shoes that you would like to carry to represent your loved one. Ohio CAN/Newark Homeless Outreach strives to educate, embrace and empower those whose lives are affected by substance use disorder and their families. Swimmers should be confident of their ability to swim 800/1600 meters in open water before entering. We follow USAT's guidelines for use of wetsuits. Anything below 78ºF will be wetsuit legal and above 78º will be non-wetsuit. Anyone who wishes to wear a wetsuit above 78ºF will simply compete as an unofficial racer. In honor of the Boys & Girls Club Day for Kids, our 6th annual 5K to Wellness is scheduled for Saturday, September 19th, 2026, at the Cherry Blossom Welcome Center in Branch Brook Park, Newark, NJ.  The Boys & Girls Club of Newark (BGCN) is an after-school program in Newark. We are more than an after-school program. We believe in supporting children from a holistic approach. On-site at the Boys & Girls Club of Newark, we have a pediatric dental center that provides no cost to low-cost dental services to children in the community, food distributions, vision care, and social and emotional support to children who attend the program.   Our first 5K fundraiser in 2021, spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic that illuminated more access to care, allowed us to hire an additional wellness support staff to expand our wellness program. Staff Sergeant Christopher Slutman was not only a loving husband, father, son and brother but he was also a FDNY Firefighter. Sadly, while serving in the Marines, he was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. Chris was an avid runner with his wife Shannon.  Join us in honoring this American HERO by running or walking in his honor. All funds from the event will be donated to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation which supports the families of fallen or catastrophically injured military and first responders and the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation which is building a memorial to honor our heroes on the National Mall.

It's a Thanksgiving Day tradition, and it's returning to the streets of Newark, NY in 2025!  The race is a 5-mile run through the streets of the Village of Newark, located conveniently between Rochester and Syracuse.  All proceeds benefit the Newark Cross Country Boosters.Race Day check-in begins at 8AM at the community center.
