This family-friendly run/walk begins at the Y and travels through charming downtown Melrose and beautiful Pine Banks. Support the Melrose High School XC teams for a hilly 5K race on the team's home course. The race will be held Sunday, November 8, 2026. Race begins at 9 a.m. All proceeds directly benefit the Melrose XC teams. Due to the hills and terrain, strollers are not recommended for this race. Best parking location is in the lot off of Sylvan Street. Interactive course map can be found here. Awards will be given as follows (No Double Dipping!): Overall - Top 3 Male, Top 3 Female, Top Non-binary Age Groups - Top Male and Female runner in each age group (Under 20, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+) Water and light snack refreshments will be provided after the race.

We are looking forward to this year's 20th edition of the race - MHNC XX!  We plan to have some special features associated with the event.  As part of this, if anyone has some interesting displays of nutcrackers over the years which you don't mind sharing (by name or anonymously), please email photos to mhnc@melroserunningclub.com .   The Mount Hood Nutcracker Challenge is excited to welcome runners and walkers again for this year's 20th round over the hilly Mount Hood Golf Club.
