April is National Autism Awareness Month! This month is about increasing an understanding and acceptance of individuals with autism.  This year we want to offer a Fun Walk on Saturday, April 4th from 10 am – 12 pm at Bruce Meisner Park.  You can register for free or there is a $10 donation option to participate, which will enter you in a raffle! T-shirts are also available for pre-sale. We cannot guarantee there will be shirts to purchase the day of the event. Last day to purchase is Sunday, March 15th. Proceeds will be used to purchase sensory bags for Highland Recreation Center, and the rest of the proceeds will go towards purchasing supplies for We Rock the Spectrum-Hickory to be able to continue to run successful programs for the community!  If you are unable to participate but would still like to support the cause, visit the more tab and click "store" to purchase a t-shirt!

We are celebrating our 20th year of the Charity Chase Half Marathon!!!! The Charity Chase Half Marathon is a rewarding run for those up for the challenge.  Hickory is in the foothills of North Carolina and the race course winds around the city with elevation changes that will require some effort.  You will have run up and down the equivalent of a sixty-story building before you finish but don't be scared off!  We have participants that run/walk and runners as young as seven and as old as seventy.   The Charity Chase 5k will take participants through the downtown area of Hickory.  Charity Chase Half Marathon will start at 7:30 AM.  Charity Chase 5K will start at 7:00 AM.   Our Charity volunteer groups help make Charity Chase Half Marathon run smoothly.  There will be over 300 volunteers at the start/finish and along the race course to cheer you on, provide water, Gatorade & GU.  They may even entertain you along the way!  Hickory's Police Department will be at every controll

In partnership between Lenoir Rhyne University and Hickory Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism, we are excited to announce the Hickory Summer Track Series! The series will be held on Thursdays in June at the LRU outdoor track. Participants will earn points throughout the series while competing in various events. To be eligible for Age Group and Series Awards, you must compete in at least 2 out of the 4 dates offered.  Online registration will close at 11am the day of each event. On site registration will be available from 5:00 pm-6:30 pm. Prices increase by $5.  Events throughout the series will include: 1 mile, 100M, 400M, 4X100M, 800M, 200 M, 2 Miles, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, High Jump & Pole Vault & Discus. Age groups will be: 5 & Under 6-10 11-14 15-19 20-29 30-39 40-49 50-59 60+ Training opportunities are available for anyone ages 6-18 and will be held at Hickory High School, led by Coach Jimmy Fuller. HKY 100 Mile Ultra Run Experience. Camaraderie. Competition.  Hickory’s inaugural 100 Mile Ultra Trail Race is for teams of 2 to 10 people and soloists.  This demanding course puts you or your team racing around the clock challenging the limits of endurance, pace and strategy.  The course consists of a 4-mile route taking you on double-track farm trails (believed to be old moonshine roads), to single track hiking trails onto the newly created Aviation Trail, then through Winkler Park into the Hickory Crawdad’s stadium where the start/finish line welcomes you back.  Over 15,500 feet of elevation awaits you for this 100-mile challenge. The route consists of approximately 70% trails and 30% paved. There are several short steep climbs and two longer climbs at .65 miles each (see course map).  The course will be well marked with cones, arrow signs and reflective tape for night running.
