Thank you for your support! 39% of Richmond children live in poverty.  Live Red has identified 21 neighborhoods in Richmond that score 10 or lower (out of 100) in childhood opportunity (using data from diversitydatakids.org). Children in these neighborhoods are 84% more likely to live in poverty as adults and have a life expectancy 8 years shorter than those in high opportunity neighborhoods.  But there is hope.  Children involved in fitness-related activities have a greater chance of success through improved social skills, self-discipline, confidence levels, & self-esteem.  Despite these benefits, children living in poverty are 3x more likely to be inactive. We aim to change that!   We use fitness to give children hope.  Our programs walk alongside children challenging them physically while introducing core life skills such as goal setting, empathy, self-belief, mindfulness, self-control, positive risk taking, resilience, and honesty. Whether you are excited to jump start your fitness journey or you are ready to up your game by adding some more intense workouts into your training schedule, the YMCA 10k Training Team is for you! You will train with motivational coaches and teammates every Saturday morning at one of several locations throughout the Richmond Region. Our team of amazing coaches will be with you every step of the way to the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k presented by Kroger finish line on April 18. This 5K Run/Walk is to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association.  Team Lakewood, which is comprised of residents and staff of the Lakewood Retirement Community is the top fundraiser in the history of Richmond's Walk to End Alzheimer's.  In 2024 we ranked 34th nationwide in the event, which had over 55,000 teams.  We hope to raise over $65,000 this year to support this organization, which supports persons living with Alzheimer's, their caregivers and research.  You can help find a cure by participating in our third annual Lakewood/Alzheimer's 5K! 100% of the net profit from this race will be donated to the Alzheimer's Association. The official official-timed 5K takes place at 9:00 am Saturday March 21st.

The Great American Ride is a 3,700-mile virtual team bike ride along the route of the Great American Rail-Trail™, a developing trail that is more than 54% complete and will one day connect over thousands of miles and 12 states between Washington State and the District of Columbia. We’re combining the camaraderie of team cycling with the fun and sightseeing of a long-distance solo ride. The #GARIDE is a journey that you can experience from whatever corner of the world you call home.  Gather your team of 4, 8, or 12 riders and chip away at the miles as a group. At the end of each day, you’ll report your progress and watch your team dot move across the map in real time while the race leaderboard will update to show the overall standings! And to make the miles even more fun, we’ll send you facts and highlights about the locations you ride past along the way.

The course winds through our neighborhood streets, creating a safe, cheerful route filled with friendly faces and community spirit. Our fun run option is ideal for younger participants and first-timers, while the 5K offers a great challenge for those looking to go a little farther.  After the race, stick around for our first street brunch. The Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k presented by Kroger is RVA’s favorite spring tradition! Since 2000, people from around the Richmond region and beyond have gathered to share in the journey of crossing the 10k finish line. The 10k is a day about togetherness and we look forward to bringing the community together again for the 27th running of the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k. Join us for the Maplewood Mile 5K on Oct 3 at 9:00 AM — a scenic, USATF-certified-ish (fun) route through Maplewood Park. Whether you’re chasing a PR or running with the stroller, this mostly-flat course highlights tree-lined paths, a pond turnaround, and a finish on the town green. Come join us for the Bernard Greene Memorial 5K! The race starts at 9:30 am on October 11, 2025 at Deep Run Park. Registration is $35 per person and all proceeds benefit the alumni and current participants of Henrico County Recovery Court for sober activities, graduation celebrations, and family days. **A t-shirt is included with each registration.** This event is named after our previous Administrator, Bernard L. Greene, Jr. who passed away on March 7, 2019. Mr. Greene joined the then "drug court" team as a Clinician in 2008 and was promoted to Administrator in April of 2017. In his short 48 years of life, Mr. Greene touched the hearts of many people and helped others change their lives for the better. He led by example and did so with a smile, always. One well known aspect of his life was that he loved to be active and push his body to its limits. He enjoyed running, cycling, and spending time outdoors. We couldn't think of a better way to continue to support his legacy,

The RVA Mile (aka Regency Mile), along with the 5 & Under 400m Express Run, has held the record for the largest timed youth road race in Richmond for 15 years!  With both in-person and virtual race options, an adult race, condensed start times, and a fall festival, this event provides a family-friendly day of racing. The course is entirely closed to traffic and encircles Regency Square Mall.  This year, we have a kid’s mile, parent’s mile, and a 400m race for ages 5 & under.  After the race, make sure to stick around and enjoy our Fall Festival complete with candy, games, activities from our sponsors, and more! The races are organized into a series of heats (or waves) based on age and gender to keep each race competitive and fun for everyone. When you register, you’ll automatically be assigned to the correct heat for your age group.
