The Fort Gibson American Legion and Trail of Honor Flags will host the 6th Annual Trail of Honor 5k & Fun Run on May 23rd in Fort Gibson.  Trail of Honor Flags incorporated was founded in 2019 to continue and expand the efforts of American Legion volunteers who have put temporary flags from HWY 62 to the National Memorial Cemetery.  The goal is Trail of Honor, and this event, is to make those flags permanent, which will consist of 300 flag poles each with a 5x8 American Flag.  Runners will have a option of carrying a flag throughout the race.  When registering, you will be asked about this, so please respond with a yes if you would like to carry a flag.  By participating in this event you will help this cause and will honor our current and past service members as you run through the flags on Memorial Day weekend.  This event has grown by approximately 25 runners each year and our goal is to get to 500, so thank you for coming back or considering this run for the 1st time.    Please

This event will be at Clinkenbeard Park in Fort Gibson, OK. You will need to google the location because it does not have an address.  The event will be Saturday August 1, 2026.  Challenge starts at 10am. There will be a 1 mile run, a 2ish mile kayak, and a 1 mile run. There will be finisher medals for the kayak challenge. Fun Run - Immediately following challenge start  You will need to bring your own kayak. No Late Starts Packet pickup will start at 9 on race day.  Life jackets must be worn properly on the water. Do not put your kayak in the water until your life jacket is properly secured. You will be immediately disqualified if you are on the water without a properly secured life jacket.  We brought back teams for 2025. They can be male/male, female/female, or male/female. Both teammates run together, kayak together, and run together. Teammates will also need their own kayaks. SHIRT CUTOFF IS JULY 1!!!

Please join us for the 3rd Annual Fort Gibson Turkey Trot. This will be a family friendly event raising money to help with the Jean-Pierre Chouteau Trail System. (JCP) This local turkey trot raises money for the River Rats who maintain the trails.  Date: November 26, 2026 Start Time: 5k at 8:00am    Fun Run at 8:05 The shirt cut off is 11/1/26. This will take place at Clinkenbeard Park in Fort Gibson.
