Making the Miles is a physical and virtual motivation community where you work towards running or walking 1000 miles in a year. No matter where you are, keep yourself moving all year long to hit your mileage goals and earn some prizes along the way! You will be admitted into the private Garmin group where you can see the leaderboard and compete with people around you, or just use it to motivate yourself to keep climbing!  Pick up some awesome running essentials along the way as you reach milestones, and if you sign up before March 31, you’ll receive a special prize just for signing up! Prizes are awarded at 250, 500, and 750 miles, and if you hit 1,000 miles, you’ll earn the super-massive-amazing Fleet Feet belt buckle!

Packet pickup will be over at our race at corner of 28th and Ingersoll, and then it will be short walk to High Street where you'll find the start line. At roughly 1:30PM, the run will take off down hill to 24th street where it will take two right turns and take the field onto Ingersoll Avenue. After the long flat straight it will be a right turn up 28th street hill, this uphill will give you your next downhill down High street once again. Finally, it will be 2 right turns once again and a sprint to the line. Welcome to the fastest 5k in the Midwest! Event doubles as the USATF Iowa Road 5k State Championship. NEW in 2026, Team Competitions! See information below. 2025 RESULTS 2026 marks the 7th annual Blazing 5k. The last 6 years have welcomed elites and runners of all types. The 5k course starts on the back loop in Water Works Park and shoots out the gun going clockwise on the flat and fast loop. At the end of the loop the racers are greeted by a prize for the first person to cross the mat. From there it's another flat and fast main loop going clockwise.
