The race is held to benefit the Hall Township Food Pantry. Whether you are looking for a serious 5K race, or just a fun holiday event to burn some of the Turkey Day calories, Santas On The Run is an event you don’t want to miss. Pre-registrants get their choice of a Hoodie, sweatshirt, or Long Sleeve T-Shirt. The value of the swag alone is worth more than the cost of registration. The gun goes off to start the race/walk at 10:00AM on Saturday November 28th at JFK School in Spring Valley (999 N Strong Ave). Friday registration and packet pick-up Nov 27th 4-6pm and Day of registration and packet pick up will be open from 8:30-9:30AM. For the serious runners, the course is a certified measured 5K. It is mostly flat with two gentle hills. The race will be chip timed with computerized results, and awards will be given to: Overall Male and Female Top Finishers, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd to the following age groups: 6 and under, 7-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and over. The awards will be Christmas ornaments. There will be water/goodie stops at miles 1 and approximately 1.7. Traffic control will be provided to keep our runners safe. For walkers and runners that are out to have some fun, in addition to the typical water stops, we will feature Holiday goodie stops (cookies, candy and HOT CHOCOLATE), and at the end of the race…… there is more. In addition to the monetary proceeds of the race going to the Hall Food Pantry, in the Holiday spirit we are asking participants to donate non-perishable items and we have an incentive. For each two non-perishable items a participant donates, their name will be entered into a drawing for prizes and gift certificates donated by our event sponsors. Bring 4 non-perishables, and your name goes in twice, 6 three times…... The more you donate, the more chances you have to win. Will it be worth it? You betcha. As the race draws closer, we will announce the various prizes that will be available with the raffle. Since his passing, his family has been able to donate money to Bement High School to provide new uniforms for the girls’ basketball program, new bleachers at the football field, new sound-system in the big gym and 11 chrome books to be used by students. Also, since beginning this scholarship 5K run, we have been able to help 13 student athletes continue their sports careers at the college of their choice. We are looking into purchasing new shot clocks for Walsh Gymnasium for the 2026 basketball season. Mike Walsh was devoted to Bement High School and their athletic programs. He served on the school board for 10 years and was also an active member of the Bement Athletic Booster Association. He volunteered as a coach for girls’ basketball program and played a big part into introducing girls’ softball into Bement High School as well a volunteer assistant coach. For all that Mike did for the school they renamed the gymnasium after him, it is now called Walsh Gymnasium. Every December the school hosts a Mike Walsh Memorial Basketball tournament in his name. Mike got to see all three of his children play college athletics; with your help we are making that possible for other local families. Get ready to embrace winter, hit the trails, and take on the Fox Valley Winter Challenge Trail Series! Returning for 2027, the Winter Challenge features three unique trail races across three of the Fox Valley's favorite forest preserves. Whether you're looking to shake up your winter training, challenge yourself on the trails, or simply enjoy some fresh air and adventure during the colder months, there's a race for you. The series kicks off on January 23, 2027, with a scenic and beginner-friendly 5K at Dick Young Forest Preserve in Batavia. On February 20, 2027, the challenge continues with our signature 8K at Oakhurst Forest Preserve in Aurora, featuring the infamous sledding hill climb that has become a favorite (and sometimes dreaded) tradition of the series. Then, on March 14, 2027, we'll finish strong with a rewarding 10K at Hickory Knolls Discovery Center in St. Charles, bringing the Winter Challenge to an epic conclusion. Each race offers its own unique terrain and winter conditions. From winding prairie paths and wooded singletrack to rolling hills and everything winter can throw at us, no two years are ever the same. Snow, ice, mud, frozen ground, or fast dry trails—part of the fun is never knowing exactly what awaits on race day. Whether you choose one or two races, or take on the full challenge, you'll earn a custom finisher medal and branded race swag. The 18th Annual F^3 Lake Half Marathon & 5k is Chicago's Original Winter Half Marathon. Each year, thousands of runners flock to this community-built event, gathering in the warmth of Soldier Field's United Club before tackling wind & weather along a lakefront course that features splits every 5km. A must for anyone preparing for a spring marathon or just resolving to stay fit throughout the new year. F^3 sold out in 2016-2020 and 2023-present. There will be a Sweeper at the race that will maintain a 20-minute per mile pace. Please stay ahead of the sweeper to be guaranteed an official time at the finish.  Course marshals will be on course until the sweeper passes them. We will hand out overall and age group winner awards in the main festival tent starting at around 12:30 pm until around 3 pm. Any awards not picked up on race day can be picked up at Manhattan Public Library on Monday, March 8, 2027, between 4:30 pm and 6 pm.  Welcome to Irish Fest: In cooperation with the Irish American Society of County Will, the Prairie State Road Runners proudly presents the annual Manhattan Irish Fest Parade 5k. This unique race starts a parade, runs along the parade route, and is included with festival activities. The Co-op Feed Your Neighbor 5K is a family-friendly event supporting the Good Samaritan House of Carbondale. The race will be held Friday, April 10, 2026.
