THE BEAUTIFUL COLORS, HARDWOOD AND PINE FORESTS, RAMBLING TWO-TRACKS AND FLOWING SINGLE-TRACKS WILL HAVE YOU HUMMING WHILE YOU RACE. A Race Series Designed by Runners, for RunnersIn 2021 we created the McKirdy Micro Marathon series to help athletes run a personal best and qualify for the Boston Marathon or beyond. At the time, we were just coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic where opportunities to run fast times were limited and motivation to continue training was difficult with no races on the calendar. In 2023, we took the same concept and applied it at an elite level, hosting a race for athletes targeting the USATF Olympic Trials Qualifying Standard (OTQ) or the Olympic Standard. The overGRound is a free, unsanctioned marathon and marathon relay through the city of Grand Rapids whose route showcases the variety of GR’s features and neighborhoods (beyond Butterworth and Millennium). This is an inclusive, supportive, and free running event celebrating community and a grassroots, no frills spirit of running and free fitness. It is a co-hosted event featuring the many wonderful running and fitness communities of Grand Rapids. The Michigan Army National Guard Officer Candidate School is honored to be hosting its 2nd Annual Norwegian Foot March event at Fort Custer. The length of the march is 18.6 miles, weight required for ruck will be 25 lbs and must be completed in 4.5 hours (varies by gender and age group). Please see further information below. The Alger Heights Halloween 5k is a volunteer led, neighborhood focused 5k fun run. We are a 'small town in a big city' event that seeks to include all individuals and support the betterment of our local community.  From runners seeking their next PR to walkers in costumes all 5k participants are chip timed as the run through the scenic Alger Heights neighborhood during peak fall colors.  We are excited to be back for 2026 with our 14th edition on Saturday October 31st and invite you to come run, jog, walk, or stroll in your best costume! Redeem Mi Run is the main annual fundraising event for the Redeem Mi Land project. Whether you run the half marathon, or run/walk the 5k, come out and have fun! We will have a great time getting together, running, and being part of the land redemption project for Redeem Mi Land in Montague, Mi.  This year the race will be on Halloween! This gorgeous trail race benefits the Hartland Area Project, 10am Sunday, November 1st, 2026.  The race trail winds around Lake Walden with a start and finish at Waldenwoods Resort & Conference Center, the crown jewel of Livingston County (established in 1924).  Registration is $30 until Oct 20th, $35 until Nov 2nd, and $40 day of race. Starting and finishing at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, this event offers timed 5 mile and 5K runs, along with a no charge and untimed .5 mile Remembrance Walk, the Veterans Day 5 will benefit the Friends of Michigan Veterans Homes, Inc. and include the SpartanNash Community Pancake Breakfast (8:30 am-11:00 am, complimentary to run participants, $5 to all others) for the community and Veterans Home residents.

The Iceman Cometh Challenge, presented by Trek, takes place on Saturday, November 7, 2026. The Ice Cycle Expo and packet pickup, presented by Michigan Bicycle Law, will be held Friday, November 6 at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme, MI. More than 5,400 men and women, along with 600 children across 77 age divisions, participate in Iceman weekend each year. The signature event is a roughly 30-mile point-to-point cross-country mountain bike race from Kalkaska to Traverse City, Michigan. Additional events include the Meijer Slush Cup, Sno-Cone, and Pop-Cycle races, featuring a 9-mile beginner-friendly course and youth races for children 10 and under. Nearly 12,000 spectators line the course annually to experience the excitement of Iceman weekend.

The Oceana County Department of Veteran's Affairs annual 5K run happens on the second Saturday of November. The race start/end is at the newly renovated Getty Park in Downtown Shelby and follows Industrial Drive north before looping back south on the Hart-Montague Trail.  The Vet Day 5K is the primary fundraising event for the OCDVA and 100% of the proceeds stay in the county to support Oceana County veterans for items like transportation to medical appointments, food pantry, and other needs.
