9/9/2026 EVENT UPDATE*** Henry County 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Announces Location Change Due to Impending Inclement Weather Because of expected inclement weather, including chances of lightning and rain, and safety concerns raised by NASCAR’s Martinsville Speedway, organizers of the Henry County 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb are adjusting plans for the 2026 event. Originally scheduled for September 12 at Martinsville Speedway, the event will now take place at the Henry County Recreation Center, located at 395 John Redd Blvd, Collinsville, VA, and will include a special 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on Saturday. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001. All Vets and the Henry County Sheriff’s Office remain committed to honoring the fallen and bringing the community together in remembrance, despite the necessary weather‑related changes. Participants are asked to pick up their packets—containing their event shirt and a bib bearing the name of a fallen 9/11 first responder—at the Recreation Center between 8:00 – 9:45 am, the same time frame previously scheduled but at the new location. Organizers encourage each participant to complete their stair climb independently or alongside fellow community members at a safe, accessible venue of their choosing over the coming weeks. Friday packet pickup will not be available. A special memorial ceremony will be held at the Recreation Center at 10:00 AM on September 12. The Magna Vista Warrior Singers will perform the National Anthem, and Magna Vista JROTC will present the colors as part of the program. Speakers will include members from local law enforcement, All Vets, and first responders. While weather conditions have required adjustments to the event format, All Vets and the Henry County Sheriff’s Office warmly invite all volunteers, participants, and community members to join them for this meaningful ceremony honoring the courage, sacrifice, and legacy of the first responders who gave their lives on September 11, 2001. Registration will remain open until event day. This is an untimed event. Go at your own pace. Do all 2071 steps or as many as you can. Hydration and snacks will be provided to participants.All proceeds go to Henry County's volunteer rescue squads and fire departments. The public is welcome to attend and watch from the track.
