4th Annual Run for Reading 5k

TREAD Academy is hosting its 4th Annual 5K Run/Walk. Reading is the foundation of education, opportunity, and lifelong success—but many students in Georgia are struggling to reach that foundation. Recent reports show that approximately 62% of Georgia’s third graders are not reading proficiently, a critical milestone that strongly predicts future academic success. Students who are not reading on grade level by third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school, making early literacy one of the most important issues facing our communities today.  Literacy challenges don’t stop in childhood. Nearly 1 million adults in Georgia have low literacy skills, which affects employment opportunities, economic mobility, and even the ability to support the next generation of learners.  The Run for Reading 5K was created to help change that trajectory.
